Self-Contained Academic Teacher


Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Self-Contained Academic Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will be committed to providing high-quality education to students with diverse learning needs in a self-contained classroom setting.


Reports to:
The Self-Contained Academic Teacher will report to the Cook Campus Senior Inclusion Manager


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs), Analysis of Existing Data, and progress reports for students with disabilities, ensuring alignment with state standards and educational goals.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that fosters academic growth, social-emotional development, and independence.
  • Design and deliver engaging and differentiated instruction tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, materials, and technology to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Assess student progress regularly and adjust instruction accordingly to ensure academic success.
  • Collaborate with special education team members, related service providers, and families to develop comprehensive support plans and monitor student progress.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance, attendance, and behavior.
  • Implement behavior management strategies and interventions to promote positive behavior and mitigate challenges.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices and stay abreast of best practices in special education.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators to support student success and promote a positive school culture.
  • Experience with differentiation of General Education Curriculum for grade 3-5th

Other

  • Attend and participate in weekly Special Education & Inclusion team meetings
  • Support school safety by assisting with student arrival and dismissal procedures

Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Experience working with students with disabilities in a self-contained classroom setting.
  • Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse student needs.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting the academic and social-emotional growth of students with disabilities.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and advocating for students with special needs.

Other job details

  • Schedule:8 hour day, Monday-Friday
  • Location: Cook Campus (30 P St NW Washington, DC 20001)
  • Position Type: This is a 10-month salaried position which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
  • Employment subject to TB test, fingerprinting and background check
