Multicultural Community Resource Center is Hiring a Child Success Specialist (Trauma Case Manager) Near Erie, PA

Summary:

**THIS POSITION REQUIRES A MASTER'S LEVEL OF EDUCATION**

MCRC is a local non-profit organization that specializes in working with the New American population, specifically refugees and immigrants, in Erie and surrounding counties. Many of the children of these refugees and immigrants have faced a significant amount of trauma. Trauma informed care involves understanding, recognizing and responding to the effects of various forms of trauma. This program utilizes transition time between classrooms to better ensure a consistency of care for each child. Rather than move children depending on only their birthday/age, children are assessed in regards to their emotional, mental, and physical development and abilities. This allows children to move when they are truly ready for new challenges and experiences. We also make an effort to group children together for transitions so that no child feels alone in meeting new teachers and learning new routines. Transition times usually last anywhere from a few weeks to a month. This allows children to gradually create bonds with their new teachers while still maintaining the comfort and support of their current room. It also gives teachers a chance to work on things that the children will be expected to do in a new room while still feeling safe and encouraged with their current teachers. Having teachers work together during these transition times gives them the chance to collaborate on lessons and is a great way to assess the needs of all children. As a result, teachers recognize the social, emotional, mental, and physical needs of each child and make referrals to outside agencies as necessary. This position assures that the highest quality of standards are upheld in the services provided along with being a partner with parents in their children's learning and development. Reports to the Director of Child Care Program with Supervision by the Executive Director.

The MCRC Family Support Daycare is looking to onboard a full-time Child Success Specialist (CSS) to observe all of the children in the program for any problematic behaviors or delays in development which can often be attributed to trauma; as a result of living in homes where there is substance abuse, unaddressed mental health, domestic violence, poverty and abuse and neglect and other issues which have brought them to the attention of child welfare. The CSS will then complete an assessment and determine if there are any referrals needed to augment the child’s services. The CSS will provide direct support to children in the classroom, suggest strategies to the teacher to support student progress and model these strategies, meet with family, staff, and other professionals who are involved with the child in a team approach, and document all work that is done. Referrals may be made to the CSS by directors, teachers, the OCY Caseworker, or the Family Support Case Manager and Program Supervisor.

The CSS will take relevant trauma informed care trainings throughout the year and will share the information obtained with parents and staff. All staff will be required to take an online training entitled “Establishing Trauma Informed Practices in the Early Learning Environment” and all new staff will be required to complete this training within 60 days of hire.
