Position Summary
The Peer Specialist serves as a clinical member of a multidisciplinary team in the department/service. Provides a peer viewpoint about the recovery process, symptom management, and the persistence required by clients with severe and persistent mental illnesses to maintain a healthy life style. Collaborates to promote a team culture that recognizes, understands, and respects each client’s point of view, experiences, and preferences. Maximize client choice, self-determination, and decision making in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of treatment, rehabilitation, and support services. Provides peer counseling, consultation, practical help and support, mentoring, advocacy, coordination, problem-solving, direct assistance, supervision, and side-by side support to clients, families, and team staff in support of the client’s health and wellness efforts; serve as liaison with community resources; carry out rehabilitation and support functions; and assist in treatment, substance abuse services, education, support, and consultation to families, and crisis intervention. May perform professional duties and clinical supervision if appropriate professional credentials are attained.
Minimum Requirements
Experience as a recipient of mental health services for severe and persistent mental health illness
Satisfactory results from criminal background search.
Education/Licenses/Certifications
High school diploma preferred

Two years paid or volunteer work experience with individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses. Successful completion of assigned training.
Ability to obtain Agency Affiliated Counselor registration
Peer Counselor certification, or the ability to acquire that certification within one year of date of hire.
 Current Washington State Drivers License, proof of a safe driving record (which meets established MHS Standards) obtained by a motor vehicle report from the appropriate state and proof of insurance for the transportation of clients

Compensation Range:
B12 - Min: $19.67-Max: $28.31
