This is a 1.0 FTE continuing contract Health & Fitness Teacher and Athletic Director position at Kamiak High School. The Athletic Director assists the building Assistant Principal/Athletic Director with the management of athletic programs for students at the building level. Position includes days, some evening, and some weekends.

Minimum Qualifications: Valid Washington State teaching certificate with an endorsement in Physical Educatin or Health/Fitness. Previous experience teaching at the high school level. Previous experience as an assistant and/or head coach.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience as an Athletic Director or assisting in the coordination of athletics at the secondary level.

JOB TITLE: HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER

JOB SUMMARY: Plan, prepare and deliver a quality instructional program based upon state standards, district curriculum, and effective instruction to students with diverse learning needs in inclusive settings.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan and provide clear and intentional focused instruction using state standards, subject matter content, district curriculum and student needs.
  • Recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs for the purpose of promoting individual achievement.
  • Implement effective teaching practices for the purpose of facilitating achievement for each student.
  • Use multiple student data elements for the purpose of assessing student progress, modifying instruction and improving student learning.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents and school community for the purpose of fostering student success and achievement.
  • Foster and manage a safe, positive learning environment for the purpose of promoting effective student behavior and success.
  • Maintain and submit information/records including student progress.
  • Participate in various meetings for the purpose of implementing school initiatives and addressing student needs.
  • Implement and comply with District policies and the Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and conform to regular work hours specified under contract.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

JOB TITLE: HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC DIRECTOR/COORDINATOR

JOB SUMMARY: The coordinator assists the Building Assistant Principal/Athletic Director with the management of athletic programs for students at the building level.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Administer interscholastic rules and by-laws of the District, WESCO League, Northwest District #1 and the WIAA.
  • Implement and comply with District policies and the Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Support and help lead the schools’ athletic programs, polices and procedures.
  • Assist students completing all eligibility paperwork through the on-line system prior to the start of each sports season.
    • Assist in completing the on-line forms
    • Assist in securing physicals, ASB cards and other requirements as needed
    • Communicate with coaches, students, athletic secretary and building assistant principal/athletic director any issues regarding academic and/or athletic probation and other issues, as needed.
  • Assist with game management and set up for all home athletic contests, including those held at Goddard Stadium.
    • Hire and train ticket sellers/takers. Make sure they have the necessary equipment and materials to perform their tasks (tickets, stamps, money boxes, signage, pass lists, etc.)
    • Hire and train game workers - announcers, timers, scorekeepers, etc.
    • Be knowledgeable of how to set up for all sports including use of scoreboards, sound system, Track timing system, Track Eagle Eye, lights, bleachers, etc.
    • Submit timesheets for all game workers.
  • Assist with game supervision, up to 30 athletic events per year.
  • Assist administration with hiring coaches.
  • Schedule and complete concussion testing on student athletes at the beginning of each season.
  • Assist with organizing physical nights for students as needed.
  • Assist with recruitment of student athletes, including 8th grade visits to middle schools.
  • Assist with Fall, Winter and Spring season coaches’ meetings and parent nights.
  • Assist coaches with the completion of their team worksheets, the athletic office with their building worksheets and with the 3-year Student Interest Survey.
  • Assist and/or mentor coaches as needed. Duties might include assisting with equipment purchase, inventory, working with assistant coaches, etc.
  • Assist with checking fields/facilities for use on game days and coordinating communication between coaches, grounds and building assistant principal/athletic director and district athletic director.
  • Attend meetings as needed and appropriate to the position.
  • Perform other such duties as assigned by the building assistant principal/athletic director, district athletic director or principal.

JOB REQUIREMENTS; MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:

  • Knowledge of overall operation of an athletic program, including game set up and management.
  • Knowledge of District, State, NFHS, WESCO, WIAA and OPSI polices and procedures as it pertains to high school athletics.
  • Knowledge and ability to use various computer applications, specifically Final Forms, WPA and Athletic.net.
  • Ability to interact and collaborate positively and effectively with parents, students, staff and administrators.
  • Skills and ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with diverse people, including racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities.
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural competencies, and respect and value for all cultural heritages.
