Mukilteo School District is Hiring a Paraeducator - Behavior Support Specialist, Job 22-0859 CH Near Everett, WA

This is a 7 hour per day, 180 days per year Paraeducator - Behavior Support Specialist position with benefits at Challenger Elementary School. Anticipated start date is as soon as possible.
Hours for this position are 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

The successful candidate will work under the direction of the teacher in the classroom with students that have challenging behaviors.


Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a Title 1 school. Bi-lingual candidates encouraged to apply. De-escalation techniques Restorative Practices.


Minimum Qualifications:
The individual chosen for this position will be working the Challenger Solution Room. They will need to be able to problem solve with students ages 5-11.

JOB SUMMARY:

Assist LAP eligible or served students who are exhibiting behavior and social emotional actions that are impacting academic achievement in order to provide proactive behavior supports that refocuses the student. Assist the teacher with designing, planning, and delivering lessons and activities that increase positive behavior in the classroom and around the school premises. Supervise students at recess, in the cafeteria, and in the library.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist teacher(s) with the daily supervision of students for the purpose of maintaining and providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Under the teacher’s direction, collect student behavioral data and collaborate with teacher on designing behavior goals. Support students with developing routines and common language to assist with their communication skills regarding classroom behaviors.
  • Under the teacher’s direction, implement behavior plans to monitor and address positive student behavior and run small groups to address behavior/social emotional concerns of students.
  • Assist teacher(s) with monitoring and managing student behavior and progress; share observations with teacher(s) and other professional staff.
  • Assist teacher(s) with implementation of various strategies to address diverse student needs and support individual educational growth and achievement goals.
  • Provide clerical and general classroom assistance for staff, which may include collection and data entry of information and correspondence.
  • Maintain confidentiality with student information.
  • Assist with monitoring students in the cafeteria and/or at recess; assist with maintaining a clean and orderly environment for student safety and well-being.
  • Participate in meetings and training for the purpose of sharing information, improving the employee skills and knowledge, implementing school initiatives and addressing student needs.
  • Comply with District Policies.
  • Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regularly work hours specified.
  • May be subject to reassignment of job duties depending on program, building and student needs
  • Such other related job duties as assigned by supervisor(s).


Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of math, spelling, reading, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Desire and aptitude to work with students.
  • Ability to positively and professionally interact with students, supervisors, and staff.
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team situation.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage student behavior.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail and meet deadlines in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to operate or willingness to learn to operate standard classroom equipment.
  • Ability to provide for the physical, health and safety needs of students.
  • Knowledge of computer applications used to assist with student learning.
  • Ability to strengthen job-related competencies.


Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits), or have obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree or have successfully passed the Para Pro Assessment developed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).
  • Valid Washington Driver's License, with acceptable driving record.
  • Depending on assignment, may be required to complete behavior modification programs, including safe physical restraining techniques and/or other training as required.
