The District is seeking applicants for a full-time, 210 day, continuing contract Assistant Principal position at Olivia Park Elementary School. Anticipated start date is July 1, 2024.
Annual salary listed is the 2023-24 rate.

JOB TITLE:

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

JOB SUMMARY: The Elementary Assistant Principal assists in providing leadership and management of the school program in a growing diverse community to affect student academic achievement, social emotional well-being, and physical development for all students. The Assistant Principal ensures the district’s commitment to equity is integrated into all facets of collaboration with students and families, and in conjunction with all building decisions and operations.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Focus on leading all stakeholders in support of the district’s commitment to equity and for students furthest from educational justice.
  • Partner with and engage the school community to promote student learning and well-being.
  • Assist in leading instructional staff in the alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment with state and local district learning goals.
  • Hire, supervise and evaluate staff to promote effective performance.
  • Work with families in partnership to support student learning.
  • Assists in creating a culturally relevant school culture that promotes the ongoing improvement of teaching and learning for staff and students.
  • Assist in developing a student discipline management system, including use of restorative practices, that results in positive student behavior.
  • Assists in leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of a data-driven school program for the purpose of enhancing student achievement for every student.
  • Assist in supporting inclusionary practices that provide all students opportunities to work with and learn from their peers, within general education settings.
  • Advance and contribute to the learning community of school and district administrators in the lessons and insights of emerging practices.
  • Lead system-wide efforts as necessary to support improvement of the district’s academic and well-being outcomes.
  • Manage school climate and facilities to promote student, staff, and school safety.
  • Manage staff and fiscal resources to support student achievement and fulfill legal responsibilities.
  • Implement and comply with federal and state laws, District policies, and the Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Compile and submit reports and information in a timely manner.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and conform to work hours specified under contract.
  • Support and promote district initiatives that benefit the larger community.
  • Other related job duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

  • Knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and programs, student engagement, and specifically culturally relevant curriculum and instruction.
  • Knowledge and skills in hiring, supervising, and evaluating staff.

  • Knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations, including discipline and attendance, that govern the operation of a public school.
  • Knowledge of the application and implementation of school board policies and procedures.

  • Skills in developing a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Skills in attracting and retaining staff of color.

  • Skills in delegation and developing leadership in others.
  • Skills in time management and organization.
  • Skills in interpersonal relations and collaboration.
  • Skills and ability to evaluate systemic practices that positively and/or negatively affect student needs.
  • Ability to engage and work with a diverse group of people under a variety of circumstances.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in a variety of settings with culturally diverse constituencies.
  • Ability to develop strong relationships based on trust, accountability, and two-way feedback.
  • Ability to lead conversations and discourse on topics related to race, class, and equity and inclusion.
  • Ability to identify and address personal, cultural, and institutional bias.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work priorities.
  • Ability to utilize district and community resources to meet student and program needs.
  • Ability to reflect and take feedback to improve practice and performance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess, or be eligible for, Washington State Principal Certificate required.
  • Three or more years of successful teaching experience, preferred.
  • Two or more years of successful administrative experience at the elementary level, preferred.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, ability and socioeconomic backgrounds
