LOCATIONS: Mt. Ararat Middle School (.5 FTE) & Mt. Ararat High School (.5 FTE)


Job Goal:
We are looking for an individual to help grow our STEM offerings as well as collaborate with teachers to include four components: Computer Science/Coding, Robotics, Engineering, and Cyber Literacy. Looking for a dynamic, self-directed educator focused on designing STEM course offerings and enhancing STEM curriculum for middle school and high school students. Must be ready to inspire motivated students to solve complex challenges utilizing the engineering design process.


Essential Functions:

  • Regularly teach classes and courses, assess students' academic progress, maintain appropriate and timely records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Coach and collaborate with classroom teachers modeling best practices in scientific investigations.
  • Understand that STEM education and robotics, in particular, is the nexus of scientific inquiry and engineering design.
  • Help students understand how scientific knowledge develops and encourages investigations, modeling, trial and error, and the testing of hypotheses.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to create a classroom atmosphere conducive to investigation.
  • Assist with the development, preparation, and implementation of teacher workshops.
  • Assist in the development, and revision, of standards alignment to include STEM, AI, VR, AR, and cyber literacy.
  • Collaborate with Learning Commons staff in the implementation of the Maine DOE mobile computer science labs.
  • Identify lessons learned through evaluation findings and make recommendations regarding program design.
  • Support grant applications and funding priorities.
  • Assist with curriculum development, activities, and materials for students and teachers per the Maine Learning Results.

Requirements:

  • of Education 7-12 Science, Technology, Engineering or Math Certification
  • Completed degree program in science, engineering, mathematics, technology, education, or related field preferred or related relevant experience
  • General working knowledge of techniques for integrating and adapting curriculum and effective instructional practices.
  • Ability to self-start and creatively solve problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong partnership and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as with a team.
  • Ability to organize and support multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Strong classroom or group management skills.
  • Strong computer, time management, and problem-solving skills.
