Description

The Intoxilyzer® instruments are used by a majority of U.S. state testing programs for evidential DUI enforcement. CMI's products are also used extensively in safety-related workplace alcohol testing programs and in nuclear power plant employee testing in the U.S. As the leading alcohol instrument educator/trainer in the industry. CMI has trained more than 15,000 law enforcement officials and breath alcohol technicians. CMI is headquartered in Owensboro, Kentucky.

The Engineering Project Manager will plan, direct and coordinate all aspects of software and hardware development, design, and maintenance for both new and existing precision, measurement instruments.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Initiate and direct software development and maintenance along with design and development of instrument hardware, adjusting priorities for those projects within the medium and long-range plan.
  2. Coordinate with all departments, especially Sales, to formulate the requirements and specifications of new software offerings.
  3. Specify, implement, and maintain systems to track, verify, and publish software products for both instrumentation and computers to improve both software quality and development productivity.
  4. Oversee the design of the architecture of new software offerings.
  5. Lead the team of in-house software and hardware engineers and manage outsourced projects as needed.
  6. In concert with Sales and Marketing, establish and maintain close technical liaison with customers and potential customers to assure:
  7. Product development objectives (largely software) are responsive to customers’ needs.
  8. Discovery of new programs having potential for sales.
  9. Customer-relations enhancement and intelligence gathering activities.
  10. Maintain a working relationship with regulatory agencies. Keep abreast of changes in standards and regulations and convey the impact of these changes to the applicable product line.
  11. Evaluate designs, specifications, manufacturing feasibility and costs (including software development and subsequent maintenance), quality and reliability data, and other facets as may be pertinent to the development of new or improved products.
  12. Prepare project expenses, personnel (both internal and outsourced), and capital resources required to achieve engineering objectives to support the general company objectives. Monitor and control expenditures within approved budget.
  13. Plan, schedule, organize and coordinate work for maximum efficiency in achieving overall objectives of software and product development projects.
  14. Provide technical assessments, analyses, cost estimates, etc., for proposal preparation, RFQ responses and new product/acquisition opportunity evaluations.
  15. Ensure appropriate and complete documentation of product development activities in the forms of drawings, test procedures, materials/parts specifications, manufacturing instructions reports, etc. to insure sound engineering and business practices. Document control of the company ERP system.
  16. Coordinate engineering activities with designated manufacturing and quality control personnel for orderly transition of new project from Engineering to Manufacturing.

Qualifications


  • Concentration to keep track of several design elements and technical characteristics when designing and developing electronic products and components.
  • Initiative and drive to complete tasks quickly and efficiently.
  • Interpersonal skills to work well within a team environment during the manufacturing process to ensure plans are correctly implemented.
  • Advanced math knowledge including calculus help to design, analyze and troubleshoot processes and equipment.
  • Speaking skills to clearly explain their reasoning and designs to provide instructions during development and production.
  • Writing skills to develop technical publications, including design methods documents, product proposals, parts lists, operation manuals and maintenance manuals related to the equipment they create.
  • Four year degree in electrical engineering.
  • Five years or more experience in manufacturing or electronics design.
  • Leadership experience is strongly desired.
