MOUNTAINLAND TECHNICAL COLLEGE

Invites applications for the position of:

Maintenance Technician Plumbing Specialist

Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Location: 2301 Ashton Boulevard Lehi, UT 84043

Reports to: Associate Director of Physical Plant Operations

Status: Full-Time / Exempt

Salary: $58,310

This position includes a generous benefits package including 401 k, Medical, Dental, Life, AD&D, Paid Holiday, Personal, Sick & Vacation, Tuition discount after three months of employment.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure preventive maintenance schedule and service order requests are properly created, updated, closed, and reported
  • Perform preventative maintenance for building systems (exterior envelopes and interior ceilings, floors, walls, windows, finishes and hardware, keys, panel alarm hardware, etc.), plumbing, electrical (lights, light tube changes, ballasts, outlets, circuitry, electrical panels), HVAC (filters for ventilation, heating and air units) and mechanical systems including controls, pump and motors
  • Service kitchen appliances and emergency equipment, reporting mechanical malfunctions
  • Inspect and troubleshoot various equipment and systems
  • Assist with repair to facilities structures, systems and components, including performing minor repairs to building plumbing, low-voltage, and line voltage electric systems, door hardware, fire and life safety protection/equipment systems, sprinkler systems, and assisting in structural and roof inspections
  • Assemble, install, or repair wiring, electrical or electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment
  • Maintain induction, air handling, and refrigeration units, including serving, cleaning and inspecting all related equipment
  • Identify repair and maintenance projects requiring the assistance of contractors or vendors; gather information as directed to assist in estimating/evaluating project costs
  • Repair, maintain and install waste, vent, and domestic water distribution systems. May assist in welding or fabrication tasks.
  • Repair and maintain small motorized equipment engines and to perform preventative maintenance on automotive vehicles
  • Assist with electronic recordkeeping related to preventative maintenance and repair so that the Facilities Department makes the most efficient and effective use of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Maintain a working knowledge of materials, systems and code requirements related to maintenance of college facilities
  • Respond to college emergencies and closures including adverse weather to be certain that all facilities are protected and remain operational. Assists with tasks required in preparing to open campuses after a closure including snow and ice removal, systems and equipment checks and start-up operations as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant building codes, legislations, and policies
  • Know and understand safety procedures of the College
  • Activating and deactivating building alarms and responding to alarm calls after and during regular work hours
  • Operate a college vehicle and is responsible for its safe operation and reporting any observed maintenance needs
  • Maintain appropriate records and reports
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Plumbing Specialties

Responsible for the installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of plumbing fixtures for drainage and water systems.

  • Install, repair and maintain pipes for carrying water, sewage, gas and other liquids; plumbing systems such as plumbing fixtures, appliances, and air conditioners. May also install supports and hangers for plumbing fixtures and pipes.
  • Troubleshoot plumbing fixtures to perform repair or replacement of damaged components
  • Operate and monitor pressure gauges in order to identify leaks
  • Ensure compliance with relevant building codes, legislations, and policies
  • Utilize hand tools in fitting of valves, couplings and components for tanks, pumps or other plumbing system; use equipment in measuring, cutting, threading, and assembling pipes and other plumbing structures
  • Study building plans and inspect structures to assess material and equipment needs, to establish the sequence of pipe installations, and to plan installation around obstructions such as electrical wiring

Competencies:

  • This position requires a valid driver license issued by the state of Utah
  • Obtain forklift driver certification within employment
  • Ability to operate light trucks, tractors, and stationary equipment
  • Capable of working with tools, including hand and electrical tools
  • Basic working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems
  • Ability to read and utilize technical manuals and drawings
  • Knowledge of the mechanical operations and methods of repairing equipment
  • Collaborate with a team of workers and other professionals during renovations and facility expansions
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and speak effectively with customers and/or employees.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional with scheduling and time management
  • Perform tasks using problem-solving skills and self-motivation
  • Basic use of computers to access CMMS, maintain logs and inventories, respond to service requests, and use email
  • Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project Manager and Google
  • Knowledge of basic workplace safety procedures

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and Certification or Degree from a Plumbing program at a technical school with at least four years in related experience.
