Mountain Explorers is a part-time program for adults who are interested in a structured group for social opportunities, mental stimulation, exercise, and enrichment.
Group gatherings include, fellowship and fund, fitness, lunch, group discussions, live music, arts, games, and frequent outings to local venues such as the NC Arboretum, Blue Ridge Parkway, Thomas Wolfe House, Grove Park Inn, and many more.
The Mountain Explorers Program Guide will be responsible for routinely facilitating these group/individual participant activities and assisting in coordinating member outings.
The group meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10a-3p.
Essential Accountabilities:
1. Consistently provide Person Centered Approach on a daily basis
Performance Criteria:
1. Assure that Mountain Explorers member’s needs are being met through spiritual, physical, mental, purposeful and social activities.
2. Support individual and group effect on program member’s experience
3. Research outings and utilize activities that are based in person-centered engagement strategies to strengthen and enrich people's cognitive functions.
2. Coordinate outings and activities in order to offer the optimum experience for Mountain Explorers members.
Performance Criteria:
1. Gather needed supplies to provide optimum outcomes during activities and outings.
2. Work with Mountain Explorers Program Coordinator and Supply Coordinator to ensure adequate supplies to provide optimum outcomes
3. Provide required program documentation
Performance Criteria:
1. Work with other team members to complete quarterly assessments.
4. Maintain Program financial well-being
Performance Criteria:
1. Utilize resources to maintain program financial well-being.
2. Assist in marketing the program.
5. Maintain a welcoming, clean and organized program space/environment.
Performance Criteria:
1. Assist other team members in necessary tasks as assigned or as identified.
The following accountabilities may be reassigned:
1. Completes other duties to support departmental operations as assigned or requested.
Team Expectations
The Mountain Explorers Program Guide is expected to exhibit a positive, supportive and person-centered approach with a good attitude in all aspects of the job. They must also have good communication skills, exhibit flexibility, patience and the ability/desire to learn new skills. They will feel confident and positive about being in an environment with impaired adults. They must also have the ability to handle potentially crisis/emergency situations appropriately and effectively. They will be flexible and adaptable to necessary staffing situations at the center as needed and will assist in maintaining the appropriate participant to staff ratios. They will participate in the team process as an active team member and will direct issues or concerns about the program directly to their supervisor. They must also maximize productivity while maintaining high quality. They must participate in all special event days including but not limited to following designated dress code for special events.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
Required Education: High School Education with Relevant Experience
BLS/CPR, First Aid required upon hiring
Driver’s License
Preferred Education: Some College
