Job Qualifications

Education:

BA or BS Degree in Human Services or a related field from an accredited college or university, OR 3 or more years of relevant experience in the field of developmental disabilities

Experience:

3-5 years management experience, managing 5-15 team members. Experience in staff training and retention techniques.

  9. Knowledge of local, state and federal laws and regulations that govern the Residential Department.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

This position requires frequent walking, sitting and occasional standing and driving; occasional balancing, stooping, bending; frequent handling objects, and reaching with hands and arms; and constant finger movements. The position requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 25 lbs. The position also requires ordinary talking and hearing capability; full vision capabilities; and the ability to read/comprehend, write, communicate orally, and reason and analyze on a constant basis, and to perform calculations frequently. Work is performed using a computer and standard office machinery daily, and occasional use of a vehicle.

There are inherent risks in supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. May be subject to name calling or other verbal insults in addition to physical aggression including, but not limited to, hitting, kicking, spitting, slapping, punching, throwing objects, etc. MVDS provides general and specific training to best prepare staff to prevent, and/or manage these occurrences.

Qualifications


The Residential Area Supervisor is responsible for managing all aspects of daily living in all assigned facilities. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, hands on support of staff and individuals served, monitoring assigned facilities for physical safety and quality of service, staff hiring and management, and satisfaction of all licensure requirements.

Essential Functions

Administration/Management

  • Monitor staffing needs in all programs.
  • Hands on support of staff and individuals served.
  • Participate in interviews and selection of potential new staff.
  • Ensure all agency, client specific and on the job training is completed, maintained and properly documented for all assigned staff members.
  • Ensure that staff schedules are efficient and equitable.
  • Oversee Residential Managers and assist the HR office in documenting and resolving all staff performance issues in a consistent and timely manner.
  • Ensure all assigned staff are informed of agency-wide matters in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensure Residential Manager duties are fulfilled in a timely manner, and up to standard.
  • Perform accurate annual evaluations for all assigned Residential Coordinators.
  • Monitor Paycom time keeping database for all assigned employees, verify all time entered is correct, and all issues/inaccuracies are resolved prior to payroll.
  • Attend House Meetings at assigned facilities as needed to provide support and recognition to teams.
  • Represent MVDS at public events in an effort to build and maintain positive public relationships.

Programming

  • Attend/Assist with Inter-Department Team meetings, Human Rights Committee, Individualized Plan, and critical incident meetings.
  • Ensure all pertinent information and programming changes from above meetings are communicated and implemented at all assigned locations.
  • Assist the Adult Services Director in submitting Occurrence Reports to the Department of Health on time.
  • Assist Adult Services Director to ensure all licensing requirements are met for assigned locations.
  • Review and approve all incident reports for the Residential Department; ensuring all appropriate follow up is completed.
  • Compile Health Tracking Reports (Weights/Blood Pressures) in Excel monthly for review by the MVDS nurse.
  • Coordinate the ordering of all medical supplies, disposable and durable.
  • Communicate all residential concerns and/or needs to the Adult Services Director in a timely manner.
  • Ensure consistent application of personnel policies and procedures at assigned locations.
  • Serve as a liaison and facilitate communication between staff and administration.
  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly monitoring of all aspects of residential services according to monitoring guidelines as established by the Adult Services Director.
  • Provide after hours and weekend support to residential facilities as needed.
  • Responsible to provide on-site support as necessary.
  • Other residential duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor and/or necessary for achievement of Mountain Valley’s mission.
  • Review Targeted Case Management activities on an ongoing basis.

Other Required Duties

Standards of Behavior/Conduct

  • Respond to all requests for information or communication in a timely manner.
  • Follow all policies within the MVDS Employee Handbook.
  • Report all on-the-job injuries to immediate supervisor and Director of Human Resources within 24 hours of the occurrence and provide a detailed account of the events leading to the injury.
  • Respond as a Mandatory Reporter. Report all incidents of suspected client rights violations, mistreatment, abuse, neglect or exploitation immediately according to Colorado state law and MVDS policies and procedures.

Attendance and Scheduling

  • Report for work on-time and as scheduled.
  • Enter daily, accurate timekeeping records in timekeeping database.
  • Attend all regular staff meetings and other meetings as requested by supervisory or administrative staff members.
  • Work schedule as assigned.
  • Have all time-off requests pre-approved.
  • Be responsible for own transportation to work.

Competencies and Certifications

  • Complete all mandatory new hire requirements and training as identified by the State of Colorado and Mountain Valley’s training requirements within 90 days of hire and maintain courses and certifications as required.
  • Maintain skills with computers, take advantage of new technology, learn new tools quickly, use technology to enhance job performance and increase productivity. Maintain current understanding of technical processes/equipment.

Adherence to policies and procedures

  • Adhere to MVDS policies and procedures outlined in the policy manual, Employee Handbook, and other employee policies.
  • Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned to ensure effective functioning of Mountain Valley’s programming.
