Job Location: Purgatory Resort - DURANGO, CO
Position Type: Seasonal
Salary Range: $16.00 - $20.50 Hourly
Job Shift: Day
DescriptionLift Mechanic ApprenticeAssist lift mechanics in inspections, testing, monitoring, maintenance and repair to ski lift machinery. Work with lift mechanics to ensure safe and efficient lift operation at all times. Train in lift maintenance procedures to achieve Journeyman Lift Mechanic knowledge and status.
This is a seasonal position starting May1st through November 30th.
Essential Duties/ Responsibilities
  • Assist with inspections, testing and monitor ski lift machinery and components.
  • Help execute scheduled maintenance on ski lift machinery and components, tools and buildings.
  • Assist in responding to downed lifts. Work with team mates to determine the cause of lift operational problems and participate in implementing solutions.
  • Execute tasks to all resort, department, ANSI B.77 and state policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Log (legibly and accurately) all maintenance and repairs on log sheets.
Other Responsibilities
  • Inform Lift Maintenance Manager of all work in progress and any problems encountered.
  • Organize and clean the shop and work areas.
  • Remove snow and brush from around lift machinery and buildings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QualificationsKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Some knowledge of ski lift equipment, terminology and operational procedures. Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Alertness, precision, ingenuity, memory, concentration, judgment, aesthetic sense, reasoning, initiative, patience, visual discrimination, problem solving, analytic ability, persuasiveness, auditory, tactile and olfactory discrimination, imagination, oral and written communication skills are necessary abilities.
Education or Formal Training: High school diploma or GED required. Must possess a valid driver's license.
Experience: Ski Lift Operation and/or maintenance experience helpful.
Material and Equipment Directly Used Ski lift machinery and components; including electrical systems, hydraulic systems, internal combustion engines, wire, cables, heavy maintenance equipment, hand tools, air tools, electric tools, welding equipment, torches, snowmobiles, vehicles, lubricants and solvents.
Working Environment/ Physical Activities20% of the workday is spent indoors: 80% of the work day is spent outdoors in constantly changing weather conditions, including snow, extreme cold and wet in winter and heat, thunder and lightning storms in summer.
30% of the day is spent walking, 60% of the day is spent standing and 10% is spent sitting. Frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 100 pounds and pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 250 pounds. Constantly using and monitoring controls that operate lifts and using heavy tools. Frequent climbing to heights up to 80 feet. Frequent balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, reaching, handling, and feeling.
Constantly listening to machinery sounds and smelling for gasses and odors. Noise levels reach 75- 10 decibels. Constant exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards, burns, stored energy, fumes, odors and glasses.
