Mount Mary University is Hiring an Associate Building Engineer Near Milwaukee, WI

Position Summary: This individual will perform various duties on the Buildings and Grounds team including maintenance on HVAC systems, plumbing, kitchen equipment and other building repairs. Their customer service skills are necessary for interacting with the campus community and its guests. Organizational skills will be a benefit as this person needs to balance their individual workload.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform building maintenance and repair work on mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, kitchen equipment and other building systems.
  • Monitor the operations of chillers, boilers, air handling units and fire systems.
  • Identifies and records equipment in asset management system.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on mechanical systems and kitchen equipment.
  • Positive interaction with students, employees and customers on a regular basis.
  • Respond to service calls, and complete work orders as assigned.
  • Report maintenance concerns, safety, sanitary, and fire hazards
  • Perform other duties, responsibilities, or special projects for the department as needed, including emergency tasks.

Skills and Experience:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent required. Mechanical certifications preferred.
  • Proven building maintenance experience (5 years) is required i.e. HVAC, plumbing, and kitchen equipment.
  • Strong aptitude of the standard principles, methods, techniques, and products used in maintaining and repairing equipment and facilities.
  • Certifications in cross connect or backflow preferred.
  • Lift certification preferred.
  • Low pressure boiler license is required.
  • Safely, operate all appropriate tools and equipment and possess knowledge of applicable safety codes.
  • Ability to move office furniture, boxes tables and chairs.
  • Customer service experience with positive interactions
  • Capacity to work independently and under minimal supervision
  • Ability to read, understand, follow and effectively articulate written instructions such as work assignments, work orders, chemical labels, warning labels, policies and procedures
  • Exhibit oral, written, problem-solving and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work with diverse groups.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusiveness and cultural competence.
  • Basic computer skills i.e. Microsoft Suite

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of mechanical and building equipment, products and tools needed for repairs.
  • Physical ability to perform maintenance and repair tasks including safe operation of powered equipment.
  • Must be able to work independently, be observant and take initiative
  • Valid driver's license is required and insurability under university coverage.
  • Occasional weekend hours as needed and availability for on call schedule.
  • Basic knowledge of computer programs to enter daily time, e-mail, and process electronic work orders.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, repeatedly.
  • Must reach, bend, stoop, lift, twist push, pull, kneel, turn.
  • Must sit, walk, stand and climb stairs.
  • Some repetitive motion may be required.
  • Must be able to push and pull tilt trucks and/or furniture carts that hold up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb a 6' ladder.
  • Work assignments will be across multiple facilities on the campus and will require walking outdoors between buildings.

Working Conditions:

  • Work 40 hours a week with occasional overtime.
  • This is a first shift position.
  • Complete work required within a limited space.
  • Complete work required within a limited time.
  • A majority of work is indoors, but some outdoor work will be required.
