Description

Summary:

Responsible for the direct, total nursing care of acute pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric surgical patients; including the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of this nursing care within the policies and procedures of Surgical Services, PACU and MDI Hospital. Delegates and supervises patient care activities of unlicensed SS Staff and Ancillary personnel. Provides after-hour call coverage to meet department needs.

Requirements

Education, Training or Certifications Required:

1. Graduate from an NLN accredited school of nursing.

2. Holds current Maine RN license.

3. Current BLS/ACLS/PALS certification required.

4. Conscious Sedation certification required.

5. Specialty certification encouraged.

Experience Required:

1. Previous OR/RR/Scrub experience preferred.

2. Minimum 1-2 years recent acute care nursing experience required.

Special Requirements:

1. Proficient IV access skills.

2. Strong interpersonal skills.

3. Emotional maturity and good people skills required.

4. Familiarity with computer applications.

1. Able to take in, process and apply clinical information in a wide variety of patient care settings.

2. Ability to learn new skills and incorporate them into daily practice.

3. Ability to work calmly and effectively in emergency situations and cope effectively with stress.

4. Ability to prioritize workload.

5. Ability to evaluate/anticipate surgeon's needs and communicate same to Circulating RN.

6. Ability to take in, process and apply technical skills to a wide variety of surgical procedures.

Physical Demands:

1. Must have adequate vision, hearing and manual dexterity.

2. Must be able to engage in long periods of standing/walking/bending.

3. Must be able to engage in moderate to heavy lifting (25-50 lbs.).

4. Must be able to push heavy objects (stretchers/OR tables).

5. General health must be such as to work regularly scheduled hours and to meet the demands of an active position; including the ability to work for extended periods of time due to call responsibilities.

6. Must pass employee physical prior to orientation to position.

7. Must be physically able to perform CPR.
