Job Summary:

1. Provides excellent care with compassion and models Mount Auburn’s values and standards of practice for the team and promotes a positive work environment with the highest quality of care for patients.

2. Responsible for the selection, training and performance management of phlebotomy staff. Trains new employees in phlebotomy and EKG procedures, evaluates initial and annual competency for all team members and identifies ongoing needs for development and support.

3. Ensures all staff are oriented to policies and proedures and ensures that as regulations or protocols change, staff are educated and kept up-to-date.

4. Coordinates Quality Assurance activities for Phlebotomy/EKG service; works with the Lab Administrator to determine QA monitors; prepares and submits regular QA reports to the supervisor.

5. Collects blood specimens from outpatients using venipuncture techniques and following standard or prescribed methods and procedures. 2. Interfaces with the Laboratory sections in the timely expedition of specimen procurement and assures proper labelling and transport of specimens.

6. Acts as a liaison between the Laboratory and clients; assesses problems and responds to patient and client complaints in a timely manner; tracks recurring problems to identify and eliminate underlying causes; identifies potential problem areas, and acts to prevent undesired outcomes.

Qualifications:

1. High school graduate or equivalent with the ability to read, write and comprehend instructions and have basic knowledge of human anatomy.

2. Strong technical skills in phlebotomy and EKG to both perform independently and educate other team members. Previous training experience preferred.

3. Need for general analytical skills to resolve minor conflicts and problems. High level of interpersonal skills to interface with staff, patients, physicians and nursing staff in a professional manner.
