    Required Qualifications:
    Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management or a related field and five years of experience relevant to planning and providing student Transportation services. (Equivalent combinations of education and/or experience will be considered.)
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Considerable knowledge in the areas of managing Transportation operations, Transportation safety, and contracting for Transportation services.
    • Thorough knowledge of state laws, Board of Education policies and regulations regarding student Transportation.
    • Thorough knowledge of administrative and managerial principles.
    • Considerable ability to plan, direct, delegate and evaluate the work of others.
    • Considerable ability to analyze information and to direct Transportation operations.
    • Considerable ability to communicate clearly and effectively with individuals and groups.
    • Considerable ability to work under pressure and to deal with people who are angry or upset.
    Responsibilities:
    • Oversees and directs the activities and personnel of the Transportation Department.
    • Plans, develops, recommends and administers the department operating budget addressing staffing levels, service requirements, and related expenses.
    • Supervises transportation route in establishing and adjusting transportation routes and scheduling in a prompt and efficient manner.
    • Provides leadership with district routing planning information, considers the following information in the planning process; bell times, historical information, traffic flow, ridership capacity and the long-term impact.
    • Ensures all transportation technology upgrades are coordinated with Technology to minimize interruptions.
    • Coordinates school bus routes and schedules transportation for all district needs including to and from, special education, shuttles, homeless, foster care as well as additional routes and trips, including assigning students to bus routes.
    • Coordinates and manages mileage reports and annual transportation reports required by the state of Minnesota or the school district. Resolves outstanding items with the appropriate staff.
    • Acts as the primary liaison between the district and the assigned vendors to ensure safe and efficient transportation.
    • Assesses and responds to incidents, accidents, complaints and after standard hours to resolve immediate safety concerns.
    • Delegates work and monitors compliance to department procedures and standards for vehicle safety, training and development.
    • Provides and works with Communications to provide professional communication to staff, parents and assigned vendors, including the automated messaging service.
    • Works with all parties to assure understanding of proper district procedures and compliance during bus trips.
    • Responds to families and guardians in regards to transportation data and requests for transportation changes.
    • Works with the assigned vendors to monitor records and compliance with regulations for driver qualifications, training, and licensure.
    • Works with the Executive Director of School Management to advise administration about inclement weather conditions that may result in a delay or early release student transportation.
    • Works with the assigned vendors and staff to organize emergency routing, if needed or required.
    • Resolves transportation, student conduct, and safety problems, issues and concerns raised by parents, principals, students or other district personnel.
    • Reviews, approves and audits monthly vendor invoices for accuracy.
    • Plans for, develops, recommends and implements van lease schedules.
    • Oversees the procurement of necessary supplies and materials for the department as well as prepare and maintain department files, records and logs.
    • Other related duties as assigned.
