Department OverviewThe Post-Sale Systems Engineering team is the technical lifeblood of the Systems Integration organization. Our engineers design and implement the innovative communications solutions that make a difference in "Solving for Safer". As the solution architect and technical consulting lead, the Systems Engineering team has the end-to-end design, technology consultancy, and implementation responsibility for all post-sale project engagements. The Systems Engineering team delivers customer drive, world-class, leading edge, end-to-end solutions that rise to the challenges of our First Responder and Government customers.Note: This is a remote position with travel ( 25% - 50%). The candidate MUST reside in the territory region of OH, MI, MN, SD, ND, PA or WI.
Overview:
The Senior Systems Engineering Manager is responsible for managing the systems engineering resources and activities across one or more departments, functional or organizational areas. The Manager impacts beyond their area of responsibility, is known and contributes on a broader level with managers of other departments including Sales, Project Management, Product, Finance, and System Technologists.
This involves:
Managing engineering resources focused on land mobile radio system deployments
Mentoring and motivating others
Is a subject matter expert (SME) in one or more technical or operational areas
Impacts cross functional issues, is known and sought out at a Regional or National level
Can lead engineering efforts on a typical land mobile radio projects and is expected to mentor assign reports to perform this work
The Manager:
Oversees activities of one or more departments
Can lead the implementation of new technologies and the most complex projects
Manages operational and fiscal activities including staffing levels, budgets, and financial goals
Develops and establishes operational policies within the area managed and delegates assignments
Facilitates cross-functional, inter-department collaboration
Understands sales to service framework
Is accountable for and contributes towards profitability and/or cost containment by indirectly impacting the P&L through project work, tools development, and/or functional management
Is responsible for customer satisfaction and quality of engineering deliverables within the scope of assigned activities
Is responsible for productivity and professional growth of assigned employees
Regularly interfaces with senior Motorola leadership, key internal/external organizations and governmental bodies
Coordinates activities and direction through highly matrixed relationships
Handles internal/external customer relationships as required at a senior level
Evaluates fundamental problems within assigned department and is expected to develop successful solutions.
Manages activities with complex or conflicting legal requirements, technology requirements, or cultures
Relies on multiple constituencies to pursue and adopt common specifications/standards
Requires collaboration and operational execution with other Motorola businesses or external entities
Has extensive knowledge in product, technology, services, customer operations, and business complexities
Has management experience coaching and mentoring direct reports
Is adept at guiding and enabling team members
Is recognized by peers and key work partners for engineering expertise, knowledge of business needs, knowledge of customer operations, and the ability to guide resources to obtain objectives
Leadership experience (group lead/team lead/manager) is prefered, but not required.
**Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customers**
