POSITION SUMMARY:

The role of the Machinist is vital to the efficient running and organization of the machine shop including maintenance of equipment, programming of jobs and machine setup. Under moderate supervision, set up, operate, adjust and edit programs on CNC Mills, Lathes and related equipment; check work for conformity with work specifications and quality standards; and perform related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Set up, operate and adjust controls on CNC Lathes and Mills in accordance with engineering specifications, production drawings, production procedures and oral instructions
  • Check work in progress and upon completion for adherence to work specifications, quality standards, and safe operating conditions
  • Clean and maintain work areas and equipment
  • Implement most cost effective method to set up and complete a specific job and use time efficiently as possible
  • Design and maintenance of tooling, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • In-depth knowledge of milling and turning
  • Must be familiar with geometric tolerancing
  • Must have experience with tight tolerance parts
  • Must have strong organizational skills that include the ability to read drawings

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required and five (5) years programming lathe and mill. Experience machining various types of materials.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is in a manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

ENGINEERING AND MATH SKILLS

  • Proficient in Mastercam Preferred
  • Solidworks (A Plus)
  • Strong Math Skills
  • Familiar with GDT and tolerancing practices

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. Keyboard skills a requirement.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 8:00am to 6:30pm. Overtime may be required and must be approved by the Manager.
