Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting with clinical and administrative functions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, monitoring patient flow, returning phone messages, rooming patients, obtaining patient histories and vital signs, assisting with patient education, administering medications, assisting with procedures, maintaining medical records, stocking rooms, responding to medical emergencies and educating Family Medicine Residents and other trainees
Must Have: Complete Medical Assistant Program and become certified within one year or three testing periods from the date of hire; Maintain Medical Assistant Certification; Annually maintain a minimum 10 hours of continuing education; Maintain CPR certification, One year related experience highly desirable; Demonstrate high degree of professionalism and service excellence; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Reliability; Ability to gather clinical data; Ability to instruct patients; Ability to provide emotional support with compassion and respect for the individual; Ability to maintain confidentiality of medical records; Ability to prioritize tasks; Knowledge of infection control; Basic Computer Skills; Maintain proficiency in EPIC.
Physical Requirements: Ability exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally; 10 to 40 pounds frequently or a negligible amount constantly.
Physical Activity: Involves standing, sitting, walking (or transporting), stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, carrying, lifting, pushing, fingering, grasping, feelings, rapid working speed, talking hearing-conversation level, seeing-corrected vision for near and far sight, color vision and depth perception.
Work/Environmental: Exposure to blood borne pathogens, airborne and contact disease, bio-hazardous waste, and chemicals.
Personal/Physiological: Works and interacts with people, makes judgments in emergency situations, different duties with frequent changes in volume, and internal and external communications.
Responsibilities Include:
Adhere to general organizational, department and clinical policies
Adhere to patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
Maintain CPR certification
Attend mandatory training sessions and staff meetings as assigned
Participate in continuing education to maintain certification/registration
Annually completes the minimum of 10 hours required continuing education
Respond to medical emergencies
Conform to infection control policies, utilize aseptic technique, and follow standard precautions
Maintain and promote patient safety by observing physical and psychological needs
Standard competency checklist completed within one month of start date
Core competency checklist completed within three months of start date
Take accurate, complete telephone messages. Handle telephone inquires, per provider's or supervising RN's direction or by protocol
Inform patients of test results either written or via telephone per provider's request
Reinforce patient teaching / education
Administer appropriate medication by oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous and intradermal routes
Monitor patient receiving IV therapy under the supervision of the RN or provider
Call medications into the pharmacy per provider and document in the medical record
Assist with scheduling appointments and referrals
Assist with obtaining Prior Authorization
Monitor patient flow to assure best use of provider's time
Greet, check in and escort patients in a friendly and courteous manner
Obtain patient's medical history and vitals to prepare them for the encounter
Position patients for specific point of minor surgery procedure, ECG, audiogram, spirometry, visual acuity tests or diagnostic testing as required
Assist provider during any minor procedure or surgery
Request / send any medical records or test results from appropriate department
Complete appropriate laboratory testing requests
Gather all laboratory tests results per provider's request
Perform CLIA waived tests
Document completely, accurately and timely
Follow and implement changes in policies and procedures directed from the director
Perform clerical duties for the operational needs of the department
Order appropriate medical and pharmaceutical supplies for clinic and distributes to appropriate areas.
Clean and stock examination and minor procedure rooms for each patient per OSHA standards
Maintain crash cart, oxygen tank and liquid nitrogen
Sterilize and autoclave medical and surgical equipment
Copy and send pertinent information to specialists/other providers as necessary
Maintain proficiency in computer applications
Complete forms with appropriate information
Identify areas of improvement within the general nursing department
Participate as a team player with all team members at Mosaic Family Health
Implement and reflect the Mosaic Family Health management philosophy and mission in the delivery of health care services
Perform other duties as required/requested.
