Position Summary:
The Parent Mentor Program matches Parent Mentors with parents accessing Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) in Washington County. The goal of the program is to support each parent as they work toward the ultimate goal of family stability. Parent Mentors are role models demonstrating the possibility of change and a healthy life as a self-sufficient parent.
Coaching parents through their case with DHS Self Sufficiency Programs and supporting them in developing healthy social supports are important aspects of this work. The Parent Mentor will be available to consult with DHS staff regarding family engagement and assist in recognizing issues of mental health needs, criminality, cultural responsiveness, poverty, addiction and recovery.
