PURPOSE- To provide an opportunity for High School students to gain professional work experience in tribal land management. The purpose is to provide real-life experience to tribal land issues and work of the tribal land office.

WHO MAY APPLY- Sophomore, Junior and/or Senior students who are attending High School. We will at all times give preference to American Indians, as allowed by federal law. This preference is inclusive of recruitment, selecting, promotion and training, and applies to qualified applicants in the following priority:

• Members of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians.
• Lineal descendants of members of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians.
• Member or lineal descendent of a federally recognized California Tribe.
• Member or lineal descendent of a federally recognized Tribe.

DETERMINATION OF ELIGIBILITY-

• Be currently enrolled in High School or a 2024 High School Graduate.
• Be a Sophomore, Junior or Senior or entering grades 10, 11 or 12 in the fall.
• Have a interest in exploring a career in Tribal Land.
• Be able to work in both an outside and an inside environment.
• Be able to sign a work agreement.

OBLIGATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES-

• Student will need to commit to working 120 hours within 5 weeks including 1 weekend for Morongo Cultural Days.
• Student to maintain a brief daily log of their work activities.

Deliverables will include:

• A report summarizing the intern’s experience and or project/completions.
• Completion of an individual project which will be tailored to the interests andneeds of the department. The individual project will include a written report and an oral community presentation.

PROVISIONS- $16.00 per hour minus taxes, plus compensation for mileage if more than 15 miles (one way).
