Position Summary:
Responsible for the overall management and oversight of all dementia care programming at Morningside House, including Stepping Stones and Memory Lane. Ensures excellence in resident care and programming; provides outreach and support to families; supervises and trains all of dementia staff and maintaining high resident and family satisfaction. Essential Responsibilities: * Oversees all day-to-day functions of health and wellness department to include resident care and personnel * Must adhere and lead staff to adhere to or exceed established Policies and Procedures (P&P), Morningside House Standards, regulatory practices, and state and federal regulations for assisted living facilities * Serves as the nursing representative to state and county licensing agencies * Supervises health and wellness staff as assigned to include: hiring, performance evaluations, disciplinary issues, orientations and ongoing training * Assists in the development and implementation of nursing policy in consultation with administration * Professionally assists marketing department with community tours, exhibits excellent customer service skills in dealing with prospective residents and their families both in person and on the telephone * Responsible for staying abreast of all major developments and latest thinking in dementia care, and attending dementia training and continuing educations programs as required. * Responsible for 24 hour direct care needs of all Stepping Stones and Memory Lane residents. * Coordinates with the delegating nurse regarding development and maintenance of Level-of-Service service plans for Stepping Stones and Memory Lane residents. * In conjunction with other department, assists with completion of state required reports to determine appropriate level of care for resident agreements for Stepping Stones and Memory Lane residents. * Responsible for managing all Stepping Stones and Memory Lane unit staff including, but not limited to, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, new staff orientation, continued training, scheduling to ensure coverage, performance evaluations, counseling, disciplining and discharging when necessary. * Responsible for knowing each resident and for designing programming to meet each resident’s individual needs and abilities. * Responsible for ensuring all assigned staff are fully aware of residents needs and individual service plan, and that assigned staff are trained in all aspects of dementia care. * Works in conjunction with Director of Life Enrichment to develop stimulating and fulfilling monthly Life Enhancement Programming Calendars for Stepping Stones and Memory Lane residents. * Works in conjunction with all related departments in the planning and scheduling of special events for Stepping Stones and Memory Lane residents, including resident/family socials, and family support groups. * Oversees compliance with Stepping Stones and Memory Lane related service regulations including, but not limited to, federal, state, county, OSHA, DSS. * Functions as liaison with families, physicians and related health care agencies regarding care and health and wellness issues for residents residing in Stepping Stones and Memory Lane. * Responsible for maintaining high overall resident and family satisfaction in Stepping Stone and Memory Lane programs. * Establishes contacts within the community to include the Alzheimer’s Association and all other available resources. Coordinates monthly community Alzheimer’s support groups. * Divides time evenly between Stepping Stones and Memory Lane units. * Works with corporate on the developments of annual budgets for Stepping Stones and Memory Lane units, and is responsible for meeting or beating those budgets. * Assists sales and marketing with dementia leads. * In conjunction with Director of Life Enrichment, orders and maintains Stepping Stones and Memory Lane supplies. * Participates in meetings including, but not limited to, daily stand-up, department, levels of care, resident council and family counsel as pertains to Stepping Stones and Memory Lane residents. * Ensures residents receive required medications by certified staff; in situation of staffing shortage and upon certification, Director will administer medication. Assist with audits for medication compliance. * Works closely with Director of Health and Wellness. Oversees development and completion of ADL sheets, assist with change over process for dementia units. * Other duties as assigned * Attends all community and administration meetings as requested including, but not limited to, service plan, level of service, department, resident council, monthly health and wellness and “stand-up” * Assists and coordinates the development and on-going training for all nursing staff to maintain or exceed compliance with Morningside Standards, P&P, and state and federal regulation * Participates in the Manager on Duty rotation * Job Type: Full-time
