MORGAN LOCAL SCHOOLSJOB DESCRIPTION Position: Elementary Teacher K-6 Reports to: Elementary School Principal Employment Status: Regular/Full-timeFLSA Status: Exempt Description: Instruct students in the specific area of specialty; help students learn subject matter andskills that will broaden their learning experiences and contribute to their development inorder to set realistic expectations; establish proper rapport and effectively communicatewith parents; create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning; guide theprocess towards the achievement of curricular goals; participate in professionaldevelopment activitiesNOTE: The below lists are not ranked in order of importanceEssential Functions: Ensure safety of studentsEffectively manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain a good learning environmentPrepare clear and timely lesson plansMaintain accurate and complete records as requiredProvide guidance to students to promote their educational developmentAttend parent/teacher conferencesCollaborate with colleaguesDistribute course-related assignmentsEnsure students are learning all subject material by appropriately assessing on a regular basisProvide complete lesson plans for substituteCreate a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of studentsAssist the administration in implementing all procedures and rules governing student lifeFollow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined by the Board of Education approved courses of studyTake necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilitiesDemonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear, complete, and accurate explanations utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable to the level of learnersMaintain respect at all times for confidential informationAttend meetings and in-services as required per negotiated agreementTeach students using sound instructional practicesAttend educational field trips Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents through effective use of interim reports, report cards, and conferencesRefer students suspected of learning difficulties to the intervention assistance teamNotify parents if student is not meeting classroom goalsObserve ethics of the teaching professionOther Duties and Responsibilities: Assist in the selection of textbooks, equipment, and other educational materialsPromote good public relationsRespond to routine questions and requests in a timely, appropriate mannerServe as a role model for studentsEstablish and maintain cooperative professional relationshipsParticipate in committees, study teams, and cocurricular activities as agreed uponParticipate in intervention assistance team meetingsMaintain and improve professional competence by attending professional seminars, workshops, etc. to keep current on relevant issuesSupervise student teachersCounsel, advise, encourage, and motivate studentsPerform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designeeQualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four-year college or universityAppropriate state of Ohio certifications/licenseSuch alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriateRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to work effectively with othersAbility to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writingEffective, active listening skillsOrganizational and problem solving skillsKnowledge of IDEA, TAG, and Title I rulesBasic computer skillsAbility to operate school equipmentCommitment to educationKnowledge of academic area and teaching methodologySkills that foster and facilitate learning and classroom managementTraining in varied instructional designBackground/knowledge base in methodology and supervised practiceKnowledge of due process and other laws governing special educationKnowledge of special education state and federal guidelinesEquipment Operated: Various office machinesComputerCalculatorTelephonePrinterTVCopy machineFax machineAdditional Working Conditions: Occasional evening/weekend/summer workOccasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissueOccasional interaction with unruly studentsOccasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions, i.e., being prepared to work on all scheduled school days, except calamity daysFrequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, climb, and stoopFrequent interaction among unruly childrenOccasional travel, e.g., attending workshop outside of districtFrequent repetitive hand motion, e.g., computer keyboard, calculator, writingOccasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 25 poundsThe Morgan Local School District is an equal opportunity employer.
