Moravian Academy is Hiring a Long Term Substitute Instrumental Music Teacher Near Allentown, PA

Long Term Substitute Instrumental Music Teacher

Moravian Academy seeks a long-term substitute instrumental music teacher with
responsibility for middle and upper school music ensembles grades 5-12 on the Historic
Downtown and Merle-Smith Campuses.

The Position:
This is a part-time position consisting of band lessons, rehearsals and events during
normal school hours (7:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.) as well as some evening and weekend
performances. Moravian Academy celebrates the arts, and our instrumental music
teacher plays an important role in the life of the school and the performing arts
department. The long term substitute reports to the Directors of the campuses.

Essential Functions:
Teach fifth grade instrumental small group band lessons.
  • Plan and rehearse repertoire for Middle School Jazz Band and Concert Band and
Upper School Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band.
  • Manage personnel, attendance, materials, and maintenance of any school
instruments.
  • Plan and attend upcoming performances for ensembles including Coffeehouse,
concerts, and Lovefeasts.
  • Assist any students preparing for PMEA District Band auditions.
  • Assemble and rehearse a brass ensemble to play at the Christmas Vespers

service.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree
  • Experience teaching music to children required
  • Experience conducting student groups strongly preferred
  • Competence in connecting with students and creating a healthy classroom
community
  • Competence in connecting with parents
  • Organized and purposeful about materials and lesson plans
  • Collaboration with faculty and administration
  • Excellence in classroom management techniques

About the School:
Moravian Academy, located in historic Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, is a PK through 12th
grade coeducational college preparatory school and the ninth oldest independent school
in the United States. Founded in 1742, Moravian Academy continues to be a school in
motion. After a recent merger with The Swain School, Moravian Academy comprises
900 students and 200 employees. The extensive facilities are located on three
campuses which together are the premier choice for independent education in the
