Mooresville Graded School District JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Payroll Specialist

Qualifications: Person(s) in this position should possess knowledge of general payroll practices, the NC Uniform Chart of Accounts, the NC Public School State Salary Manual, and the NC Public Schools Benefits and Employment Policy Manual. High school diploma or equivalent required. Considerable knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel Word, and Google applications are required. 

Special Considerations: Knowledge of LINQ accounting software, an associate degree or higher in business or accounting, and/or payroll experience in a North Carolina public school strongly preferred.

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Purpose of Position: Performs many functions of the payroll process while serving as a support to all employees and school financial data managers. 

Responsibilities, Duties, & Expectations: Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Assists Lead Payroll Specialist to review and clear audit exceptions • Assists Lead Payroll Specialist in performing payroll 202’s as needed

• Accepts staff actions to pull newly hired employee information into the payroll system

• Processes terminations of employees including sending and receiving exit letters

• Enters direct deposit accounts

• Processes longevity and annual leave payouts

• Assists in annual payroll closeout including the W2 form process

• Serves as backup for monthly payroll deduction processing

• Any other duties as requested by the Chief Financial Officer

Evaluation and Measurement of Performance: Periodic performance check-ins and annual MGSD-classified employee evaluation

Terms of Employment: Twelve months; full benefit package offered with full-time employment.

Pay Grade: NC11
