General Statement of Duties: Performs a variety of manual and semi-skilled custodial duties required in the cleaning and maintaining of the Airport and all common areas, including terminals, restrooms, lounges, and public spaces. This position requires performance of custodial duties within a high traffic and demanding environment.

Supervision Received: Works under the supervision of the Airport Operations Manager and performs a variety of routine work within established policies and procedures, and receives detailed instructions on new projects and assignments.

Supervision Exercised: This position has no supervisory responsibilities

Essential Functions: Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all duties which may be found in positions of this class.

  • Performs custodial duties including general cleaning, dusting, polishing furniture, doors, walls, ceilings, windows and other related surfaces, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, waxing, polishing floors, , cleaning carpets, and washing windows.
  • Collects and disposes of trash, replaces garbage liners, and cleans garbage receptacles..
  • Operates power cleaning equipment such as buffer, sweeper, and steam cleaning equipment.
  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and fixtures and replenishes supplies.
  • Performs limited routine maintenance tasks, including minor building repairs and painting.
  • Provides labor support during events.
  • Performs winter maintenance duties, including applying ice melt on walkways, shoveling and snow removal, either manually or using machinery.
  • Provides exceptional customer service.
  • Attends all applicable meetings including staff and safety meetings.
  • Maintains cleaning logs, inventory records of work performed and time allocated.
  • Regular and reliable attendance. May work a variety of shifts and schedules, including nights, holidays and weekends.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education: A High school graduation or equivalent.

Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of experience performing commercial custodial work.

Language Skills: Must have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and the skill to organize materials and present information clearly and concisely in verbal and written form. Must understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Must have proficient knowledge of the English language, proper grammar, punctuation and spelling in other oral and written communication and have the ability to write routine reports and correspondences. Must be able to read, comprehend and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and standard operating procedures required for this position, as well as, basic how-to documents and manuals.

Interpersonal Skills: Must have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with fellow employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations and members of the community. Must have a strong customer focus orientation and have the ability provide information, answering questions and taking messages. Must be able to accept interruptions in a polite and effective manner. Must have the ability to be an effective team member and maintain sensitive and confidential information. Must maintain appropriate professional boundaries in relationships with customer/clients and the general public.

Mathematical Skills: Must have the ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Skills: Must be able to apply basic principles of logic and reasoning to a variety of practical problems. Have problem solving and troubleshooting skills. Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and work on multiple tasks. Must be able to exercise some independent judgment and function under pressure. Must be able to accomplish assigned tasks to meet established performance standards and objectives and thinks through the consequences of a decision prior to making it.

Office Technology/Computer/Technology Skills: Must be able to effectively use modern office technology and equipment, including computers, calculators, telephone, copiers with scanning and faxing capabilities. Must have fundamental experience with word processing, database manipulation, spreadsheets, email, and the knowledge to save and retrieve documents from a variety of destinations and sources. Must be able to learn the software and programs related to the position and the County.

Physical Demands: The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and stand for long periods of time; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands or arms. The employee is required to stand; walk; climb or balance; twist; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Must be able to respond to the customers’ needs and perform tasks requiring extensive hand and eye coordination. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, small tools and other devices and objects. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to smell to distinguish between normal odors or controlled substances. Physical ability and mobility to drive a motor vehicle. Ability to work extended shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing essential functions of this job. Work is performed in the Airport Terminal, other Airport Buildings and on related grounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; risk of electrical shock; and vibrations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Work involves heavy lifting, digging, bending, and working in abrasive weather conditions. The position is impacted by urgent time deadlines to prepare the fairgrounds for major events and uncontrollable interruptions and distractions to meet the public’s needs. Hazards: May be exposed to angry, hostile, frustrated individuals. May be exposed to a variety of animals and plants/weeds, harmful chemicals and human and animal body fluids.

Special requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record. Able to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours on an as needed basis. The operation of man lift, saws, drills, lawn mowers and other hand and power tools used in the area of responsibility.
