Contracted Length Term: 182 Day - RSP Calendar
Salary: Related Service Provider Salary Schedule (prorated range $55,342 - $73,912 based the 23/24 salary schedules, education and related experience)
Start Date: August 2024

District Summary:
Nestled within Colorado's gorgeous Western Slope, the towns of Montrose and Olathe are surrounded by an endless variety of prospects for exploration and adventure (Black Canyon National Park, Telluride and the San Juan Mountains to the South, along with rivers, lakes and streams). MCSD is one of the largest rural school districts in Colorado, which means we are small enough to be neighborly, but still big enough to continue growing (with short commutes to school and work).

Summary of Position:
Under direction, to plan, organize, and provide diagnostic services and therapy for children with speech, hearing, and language disabilities; to demonstrate, teach, and instruct pupils in language and speech development processes; to perform diagnostic assessment in determining speech and language performance levels; to aid in the development of academic, social, behavioral, and other educational skill areas; and to do other related functions as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • This position classification requires subject matter expertise speech and language assessment and development.
  • Responsible and directly related assessment and language development experience is required to perform problem analysis and arrive at alternative solutions to speech and language problems, issues and concerns.
  • The position classification performs decision analysis continually and makes judgments and decisions of considerable consequence.
  • Select developmentally, culturally, and linguistically-appropriate, formal and informal assessment tools and procedures, to identify needs of children/students suspected of having difficulties in communication.
  • The functional role of this position classification requires the application of a variety assessment protocols, and interpretation of data, facts, procedures, and policies pertaining student educational and speech and language development programming.
  • Plan and implement an appropriate service-delivery model, for each identified student, based on assessment results
  • Provide culturally- and developmentally-appropriate curriculum-relevant intervention, based on identified needs, and proven effective research and practice,
  • The incumbent meets frequently with school administrators, teachers, other educational staff and parents to communicate information, data, and alternative problem solutions.
Education/Certification:
Education:
Possession of an earned Master's degree or higher degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis in related field.

Certification:
Possession of a license from the Colorado Department of Education authorizing Special Services in related field.
ASHA Certification preferred.

Experience:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be:
  • Successful completion supervised clinical experience.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge to:
  • Evaluate and diagnose speech, language, communication, or swallowing difficulties.
Ability to:
  • Develop and implement effective treatment programs.
  • Provide counseling to students and students' families about results of testing and recommended treatment options.
  • Establish and implement understanding, expectations, and goals for treatment.
  • Create accurate documentation and reporting.
Physical Requirements:
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.
  • Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 5 to 25 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • This type of work involves sitting, walking, and/or standing.
  • Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced.
  • Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
Additional Requirements: The position classification performs decision analysis processes and makes decisions of considerable consequence, requiring the application and interpretation of data, facts, procedures, and policies.
