Montgomery Orthopaedics is Hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse Near Chevy Chase, MD

Position Summary/Scope of Work

The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics LLC (CAO) is one of the nation’s largest Orthopaedics practices, owned and operated by physicians, with over 60 locations across Maryland, Northern Virginia, and the District of Columbia. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional and considerate patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, professional standards of care, state regulations and accreditation standards, and CAO philosophy, policies, and procedures. The LPN delivers medical attention to patients and assesses their wellbeing as part of a larger medical team. Including checking vital signs, recording patient’s medical history, and a variety of clerical responsibilities.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Interviews patients regarding current issues, medications, and allergies and reviews medical record for pertinent previous and current information.
  • Establishes and documents patient treatment regimen under supervision of RN or MD and implements treatment.
  • Participates in patient treatment regimen, including administering medications (under supervision of a physician and registered nurse).
  • Assists in phlebotomy: identifies patient, checks requested tests, prepares equipment, patient, and puncture site.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of examination room supplies and prepares exam rooms at the beginning and end of day and between each patient contact.
  • Performs variety of office responsibilities: answers phones, takes messages, and performs triage within scope of licenses practical nursing practice in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Facilitates and assists in the coordination of patient referrals.
  • Participates in the orientation and training of new personnel.
  • Ensures consistent compliance with all regulatory and CAO guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience

  • Graduate of accredited school of licensed practical nursing and appropriate state licensure.
  • 1-2 years of experience working in an ambulatory care setting preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Experience collaborating across multiple functions.
  • Experience innovating in a fast-growing work environment and dealing with ambiguity.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics when making necessary transfers and helping patients with exercises.
  • Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting.
  • Some heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling exerted regularly throughout a standard work shift.
  • Adequate hearing to perform duties in person and over telephone.
  • Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, medical equipment, fax machine, scanner, photocopier, and telephone.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone.
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading materials from printed sources and computer screens.
  • Requires exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
