Closing Date: 05/08/2024 A vacancy exists for a Teacher - Hearing Support position to work within the Office of Student Services at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit! This position supports students in school age programs. Qualifications:
Valid PA Certification as Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing PK-12
Understanding of communication options for the deaf and hard of hearing and able to teach using a variety of communication modalities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of the ER/RR/IEP process
Knowledge of technology for students with hearing loss
Ability to participate in an interdisciplinary team
Strong organizational skills
Ability to travel
Current child abuse, PA criminal clearance and FBI fingerprinting required (within one year from date of hire)
Duties & Responsibilities:
Evaluate the needs of students with diagnosed hearing loss
Develop a plan for delivering high quality, evidence based instruction and support for children in a variety of environments including general and special education classrooms, specialized schools, community settings and in homes.
Academic instruction including pre-teaching and review, expressive and receptive language, written expression, listening skills, self-advocacy skills, coping strategies, and expanded core curriculum.
Work closely with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure that they understand the implications of hearing loss and the accommodations necessary to assure students have optimal access to instruction and social interactions.
Work closely with the educational audiologist to ensure that students’ hearing technology is maintained and functioning.
Location: The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is located in Norristown, PA and services children throughout Montgomery County, PA. This is an Itinerant position supporting students and programs throughout Montgomery County, PA. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7.5 hours/day, 10 months (194 days/year) 2024-2025 Salary: Bachelor’s, Step 1: $52,572/year Master’s, Step 1: $63,582/year *Placement on salary schedule based on experience and/or education beyond the Master’s Degree.
