WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
MCDOT seeks to fill a Highway Construction Field Supervisor in the Division of Transportation Engineering, Sidewalks Unit. This position is responsible for managing construction crews and contractors to implement the Annual Sidewalk Program and American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) Program projects, ensuring that the construction meets the performance and prescriptive specifications and standards stipulated in the contract. This position oversees traffic calming measures, pedestrian refuges, field construction for installation of bike paths and bus stops under the Annual Bikeway Program and the Bus Stop Improvement Program.
The position is responsible for preparing financial analysis and forecasts for the construction of sidewalk and ADA projects, reviewing and approving monthly invoices from contractors and consultants, coordinating and conducting meetings with consultants, contractors, federal, state, local and other County agencies. The Highway Construction Field Supervisor reviews contractor submittals, subsequent updates and analyzes and recommends staffing needs for the implementation of CIP transportation facilities. The position provides supervision, mentoring and oversight of union employees as well as supporting consultant staff.
The following skills and competencies are required: This job requires the employee to communicate with both the public and public officials. Employee must have strong interpersonal skills to communicate and work with residents regarding construction of pedestrian facilities in their neighborhoods.

This position REQUIRES the possession of a valid driver’s license and the ability to attend meetings and perform work at locations outside the office, including locations throughout Montgomery County and other places in the Washington Metropolitan region. These locations may not be accessible by public transportation.
To ensure a positive workplace and to comply with federal, state and County laws, the incumbent is responsible for completing mandatory trainings within the first three to six months or within the specified timeframe.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Extensive (5 years) experience in road and highway and related structures, materials and construction project management, inspection and enforcement, contract administration, and quality control.
Education: Associates of Arts degree in Construction Management or related field appropriate to the assigned position.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Physical Ability: Must be able to exercise occasional light physical effort such as long periods of standing; walking over rough terrain; bending, crouching and stooping; or lifting objects up to fifty (50) pounds.
LICENSE: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant's state of residence
Preferred Criteria
There are NO Preferred Criteria Assessments. All Applicants will be reviewed by the Office of Human Resources (OHR) for minimum qualifications. Those applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be rated “Qualified”, placed on the eligible list, and may be considered for an interview. Employees meeting minimum qualifications of the same grade or higher will be placed on the Eligible List as a “Transfer” candidate and may be considered for an interview.
