Montgomery County Community College is Hiring a Student coach Near Blue Bell, PA

Part-Time ACT 101 Student Success Coach (Temporary, Grant-Funded)

Reports to : Director of Student Support Programs

FLSA Status : Non-Exempt

This position will be opened to filled. Review of applications will occur after Sunday, June 2, 2024.

Hours : 25 hours per week - Must be available to work day, evening and weekend hours.

This is a temporary grant paid position and is contingent upon grant funding. This years grant award ends 6 / 30 / 2024 and the next grant cycle begins 7 / 1 / 2024 - 6 / 30 / 2025.

This position has college-wide responsibilities and requires travel between all campuses and off-site locations. This position will be primarily be located at the Blue Bell campus.

This position requires the PA Child Abuse, PA State Police, and FBI Fingerprinting clearances.

Basic Purpose :

  • This position supports students’ retention and progression to graduation; provides transfer information; individualized student outreach to at risk students;
  • connects students to relevant campus and community resources; provides academic & transfer coaching and support for students on an ongoing basis;

monitors and tracks progress of students; maintains communication with faculty and staff in support of students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide outreach, monitoring and intervention to students showing signs of academic stress. This includes meeting with students to assess underlying social, financial, socio-emotional, and other issues and providing direct assistance or referral to campus and community resources.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records on student assessment and usage of services.
  • Work with students to develop realistic academic and transfer goals that will contribute to academic and personal success in college;

develop relationships with students that will motivate students to achieve their educational goals.

  • Facilitate individual and small group sessions on personal and academic skill strategies and provide assistance with navigating My Success Network, Educational Planner, Starfish, Self Service, etc.
  • Participate in programs related to student orientation and mentoring.
  • Maintain open communication with academic advisors in support of their students (i.e. Starfish alerts, academic improvement plan, individualized service plan, progress toward goals, etc.)
  • Perform active follow-up with students that have not scheduled for subsequent semesters and work with academic advisors and / or department chairs to assist in contacting students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Knowledge & Skills

Bachelors degree in Counseling, Social Work, Education, Psychology or other related field with two years of experience required;

masters degree preferred.

  • Demonstrated understanding of retention and persistence of at-risk students and providing at-risk learner support
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred
  • Organizational and communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to work with diverse populations, such as under-resourced groups and first-generation students.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to a comprehensive community college philosophy.
