Job Description: Project Superintendent - Sitework

Summary: Our company is a Commercial Construction Firm, providing construction management and general contracting services for our clients, who range from real estate developers to business owners. We currently have a repeat developer client who has made a 5 year commitment to us to perform all their horizontal sitework construction on many projects ranging from residential subdivisions to commercial retail tracts.

We are seeking an individual, very experienced in sitework, for a Project Superintendent role to provide onsite coordination and supervision for these projects. This role will be responsible for developing and driving the project schedule(s), subcontractor coordination, site safety, and quality control. This individual will have a genuine opportunity to grow with the company as we are looking to turn this opportunity into a new revenue stream.

Responsibilities:

  • Schedule subcontractors, vendors, and consultants to ensure timely completion
  • Perform quality control duties to review that all work is being completed properly and to the highest of standards
  • Communicate with project team, subcontractors, vendors, client, etc.
  • Maintain clean and organized job sites
  • Be “hands-on” and prepared to perform certain field tasks such as clean-up, rough carpentry, etc., and have the ability to lift up to 100lbs.
  • Identify that all workers are working safely according to industry standards
  • Coordinate required inspections with local jurisdictions
  • Identify conflicts in construction progress and report them to the project team for resolution
  • Perform Superintendent duties at multiple job sites, simultaneously
  • Preside over subcontractor coordination meetings to properly coordinate the work
  • Perform job progress and completion lists
  • Drive projects to completion based on schedule, and on budget with the Project Manager
  • Assist in budgeting, bidding, and awarding of subcontractors
  • Assist in obtaining permits
  • Open job sites at the beginning of the day and secure them at the end of the day
  • Assist in hiring sub-tier employees
  • Pick-up and deliver materials to job sites as needed, as well as receive deliveries to job sites
  • Assist the Project Manager with preparing project schedules and budgets
  • Review plans and comment on the design, schedule, possible cost saving measures, etc.
  • Handle all situations in a professional manner
  • Assist the company owner with administrative tasks as needed

Supervisory Responsibilities and Work Environment:

The Project Superintendent will report directly to the company’s assigned Project Manager and the Operations Director, and is solely responsible for, and will be held accountable for, the timely completion of projects, while ensuring that they are constructed properly according to the plans, specifications, and local codes. The Project Superintendent will not have any internal company direct reports to supervise at this time; however, this individual shall supervise all subcontractors, vendors, and consultants on a daily basis.

The work environments will consist of project jobsites, the Project Superintendent’s vehicle, and the company’s office. This role will be a roaming superintendent and managing several sitework project jobsites at one time.

Education and/or Other Requirements:

  • College or High School degree preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of verifiable experience
  • Thorough knowledge of trades
  • Strong communication (verbal, written, presentation) and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, detailed and organized
  • Skilled in customer service and issue resolution
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and construction plans
  • Ability to write routine reports, emails, and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups or clients, subcontractors, employees, etc.
