Job Description

Position: Assistant Teacher

Qualifications: Candidates without a degree in a related field or it’s equivalent must meet the following pre-service requirements: Must be 18 and have an HS diploma or its equivalent and have ONE of the following:

A) One year of experience in a center or two years of experience in a family child care home,

B) Completed a two-year Child Care Occupational Home Economics course in high school, or

C) Complete 26 clock hours of training in child development within the first 6 months of employment (This is in addition to annual in-service training hours. Credential coursework could be counted).

Responsibilities: Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

1. Assisting the teacher in planning and implementing the daily program, including the following:

a. treating each child with dignity and respect

b. planning activities that will encourage each child’s emotional, social, cognitive, and physical growth.

c. recognizing and considering each child’s needs in relation to cultural and socio-economic background, handicaps, special talents and interests, style, and pace of learning.

d. helping children learn to think creatively, solve problems independently, and respect themselves and others.

e. Establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for all children in age groups.

2. Work to prevent injuries and handle emergencies, accidents, and injuries appropriately when they occur.

3. Supervising the classroom, according to the teacher’s plans, when the teacher is out of the room.

4. Helping with meals and preparation of snacks.

5. Assisting the teacher in other appropriate ways, including normalizing of the classroom.

6. Maintaining professional attitudes, behavior, and dress at all times while on duty. This includes using the proper channels to air problems and complaints.

7. Participating in professional organizations that work for the improvement of early childhood education.

8. Maintaining strict confidentiality regarding children and their families.

9. Generally promoting a good rapport among staff members.

10. Sharing with the teacher the responsibility of maintaining a clean room.

11. Develop strong classroom management and be able to maintain classroom order

12. Can carry out other related duties the Teacher or Director assigns.

13. Be willing to work with the Administration staff to make Montessori Kids Universe a school of excellence.

General Expectations:

  • Follow the personnel policies of the center
  • Maintain a professional appearance
  • Report problems promptly to the teacher
  • Come to the center rested and able to deal with the demands of the children
  • Participate in all training scheduled by Montessori Kids Universe
  • Capable of communicating effectively both orally and in writing as applicable to the job responsibility
  • Ability to lift a child 50 lbs or more.
  • Ability to move furniture/toys/equipment in the classroom.
  • Ability to use computers and handle the paperwork.
  • Ability to multi-task: answer phones, and look up information.
  • Ability to concentrate on a task.
  • Ability to remain alert at work.
  • Capable of communicating with emergency personnel

Job Types: Contract, Full-time

Salary: $17.00 - $21.00 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Beverly, MA: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Experience:

  • Teaching: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Childcare: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Child Development Associate Certification (Preferred)

Pay: $19.01 - $20.68 per hour

Expected hours: 25 – 30 per week
