Job Title: NIR Lab Technician

Business Unit: Growing

Location: Loudon, TN 150MTN

Reports To: Senior Grower

Work Schedule: Generally a 5-day work week

Travel Time %: Minimal
Position Type: Full-time

FLSA Status: Salary, Non-Exempt

Summary:

This is a full-time position with excellent benefits. This position will be responsible for collecting compost samples and raw materials, scanning the samples using a Near Infrared Scanner (NIR), and collecting and organizing the data collected. This position will also be responsible for communicating this information to growing staff, and the NIR Coordinator. Will partner and collaborate with Growing Team and Leadership Team to maximize crop health, yield and maintenance. Schedule hours are typically 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (may change based upon business needs).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position will be responsible for scanning materials using a Near Infrared Scanner (NIR). This material will include mushroom compost, the raw materials used for mushroom compost production, and other materials as needed
Sampling of raw materials and compost
Must be able to follow all SOPs for sampling and NIR scanning
Maintenance of the analytical database for the farm
Communication of data to key team members
Collaboration and Partnership with the Farm Teams in order to produce the best crops
Regular and consistence attendance for daily collection of data collected

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

Preparation of analytical reports
Work closely with growing staff, and report compost formulation changes to NIR Coordinator
Assist farm with using analytical data to make decisions about crops

Skills:

Required:

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
Experience working with Microsoft Excel and Access
Ability to adhere closely to SOPs for data collection and sampling methods
Proven abilities to work independently and productively with limited supervision, and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team
Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills
Self-motivation, multitasking skills, and ability to work as a highly collaborative team member are essential

Desired:

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access
A minimum of one year working with data entry and or collection of data
Previous lab experience
Strong interest in science or mushroom growing
Some experience with materials analysis
