Job Title: Harvesting Supervisor
Business Unit: 1153210

FLSA Status: Exempt
About the Role: The Harvesting Supervisor will supervise all functions related to harvesting of mushrooms with special regards to quality, timing, safety and cost effectiveness. Insure that personnel continually improve and that progressive disciple is maintained. Will supervise approximately 300 harvesters and schedule will vary.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Monitor when, how, rooms are picked and by whom.
  • Insure all employees’ work safely through the use of facility safety education.
  • Coordinate completion of uniform, consistent, and fair counseling and reviews with special emphasis on quality, filled containers, productivity, safety, attendance and GMP's.
  • Coordinate department and farm personnel management procedures with harvesting personnel.
  • Insure that all farm and departmental policies are uniformly enforced and followed.
  • Accurately forecast pounds picked daily and insure completion of all work each day.
Secondary Responsibilities:
  • Insure support personnel have the materials and support to successfully complete their duties.
  • Insure product is delivered to packing in a timely manner.
  • Interface daily with growing, packing, and sales department, and work as a team with all departments.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSBILITY:
Direct Reports: Harvesting Forepersons and 300 plus hourly employees
In addition to managing current direct reports; this position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management within that department.
  • Responsible for interviewing, selecting and training direct reports.
  • Is responsible for reviewing performance and administers corrective action.
  • Plans the work schedules, assigns duties, tracks absenteeism and reviews work to ensure quality standards.
  • Responsible for monitoring work for legal or regulatory compliance.
  • Observes and practices safety and housekeeping procedures at all times.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and computer-based applications.
  • Ability to follow all Sanitation and Quality Policies and Procedures, and report and follow through on any deficiencies.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs; ability to lead others through change.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Skill in organization and prioritization, and attention to detail.
  • Strong team player and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines.
  • Ability to select, coach, develop, engage and retain a team of employees.
EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:
Required:
High school education required or GED
  • - College degree preferred
  • Ability to successfully deal with people is a must and prior experience is required.
  • 2‑3 years in supervisory management with 1‑2 years in an agricultural operation preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills are a must.
Desired:
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Bilingual verbal required, written would be a definite asset (English/Spanish)
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
The role generally works in an office environment, however when visiting the farm/packing facilities this role will be required to use appropriate food safety and workers safety equipment such as hearing protection, hairnet, helmet, smock, etc., as required by the location.
