JOB SUMMARY:
Ensures that nursing care is provided according to established nursing standards and policies. Renders nursing care to patient as prescribed by a physician. Assists in supervision and training of non-professional nursing personnel.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Serves as “Floor Nurse” assuming responsibility for the unit and supervises other personnel.
2.To support Supervisor in coordinating, evaluation, and follow-up of patient care on a 24 hour basis.
3.Expected to attend meetings and in-service programs conducted to upgrade the quality of patient care.
4.Expected to take active part in fire and disaster drills for the safety of patients and other staff members.
5.Gives complete nursing care and performs related tasks to promote patient comfort.
6.Supervises and completes required documentation in accordance with standard nursing practices. This is to include transcribing Physician Orders to patient chart, medication sheets, and monthly summary sheets.
7.Assists physicians during rounds.
8.Helps orient new nursing staff.
9.Assigns duties to nursing staff.
10.Helps coordinate nursing activities with the activity of other departments.
11.Visits patient to verify that maximum nursing care being provided and notes any changes in patient’s condition.
12.Responsible for the administration of medications and treatments.
13.Helps maintain the self-respect, personal dignity physical safety of each patient.
14.Communicates, counsels and takes appropriate action reference to work performance and/or infraction of established policies as stated in employee handbook.
15.During probationary period makes recommendations for continued employment based on evaluation of work performance.
16.Recommends promotions, demotions, and disciplinary action of those employments within their work areas and documents reason for such action.
17.Performs other duties as assigned within the realm of their training and education.
18.Supervises and evaluates work performance.
19.Provides guidance for Nursing Assistants.
20.Provides information to members of patient families and is involved with patient and family teaching.
21.To maintain and promote continuity of patient care on a 24 hour basis.
22.To foster interest and promote attendance in in-service programs.
23.To promote inter-personal relationships and communicate among floor staff members between shifts.
