Job Summary:

Montauk is seeking an experienced and qualified individual for the role of Safety Process and Construction Specialist with a specific focus on Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) participation and recommendation implementation. This hybrid position involves overseeing construction site safety, ensuring compliance with regulations, implementing safety protocols, conducting safety training as needed, and performing regular construction site inspections. This position will actively contribute to the administrative development and practical improvement of safety programs while leveraging safety engineering methodologies to identify and mitigate potential hazards in project planning, design, and execution. The successful candidate will have a strong background in construction safety practices and engineering principles to create a secure working environment for all personnel.

This position requires up to 40% travel to various project locations, so a commitment to safety excellence and a willingness to work in diverse environments are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and facility managers to integrate safety into the construction process, with a focus on risk management.
  • Stay current with industry safety regulations and best practices.
  • Participate in all HAZOPs for new and existing facilities of various node sizes.
  • Develop HAZOP recommendation completion tracking methodology and SOP.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits at construction sites and site preventive maintenance outages to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Provide safety training and orientation to employees, subcontractors, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Investigate and document accidents, incidents, near misses, and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Participate in safety meetings and communicate safety updates and recommendations to project teams.
  • Serve as a resource for employees and management regarding safety-related concerns and questions.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety-related activities, including inspections, training, incident reports, and HAZOP studies.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and initiatives.
  • Promote a safety-first culture and encourage employees to actively participate in safety activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering or a related field.
  • OSHA 30 certification is required.
  • 3 years’ experience required. 5 preferred.
  • Professional certification in safety (e.g., CSP, CHST) is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in construction safety management, and/or a hybrid safety engineering/construction role.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state safety regulations, including OSHA standards.
  • Strong computer skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% to various project locations.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • First Aid/CPR certification is a plus.
