Reporting to the nursing program director and the dean of the college, the Pediatric and General Nursing Instructor supports the mission, purpose, and goals of City College at Montana State University Billings. Responsibilities include teaching up to 30 credit hours per academic year of pediatric and general nursing courses in the Associate of Science degree in Registered Nursing, and the Certificate of Applied Science degree in Practical Nursing programs. The successful candidate will provide hospital clinical and skill lab coordination, and will participate in curriculum and course development, as well as outcomes assessment. The Pediatric and General Nursing faculty is expected to participate in City College and MSU Billings committee assignments and activities, scholarly activity, online course development and delivery, teaching at non-traditional times, advising and recruiting students, grant writing, and community service.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
General

Teaching

  • Instructional preparation and teaching of assigned courses in curriculum.
  • Facilitate the learning process that creates safe non-threatening climate which supports learning across the health care system.
  • Participate in assessment of student learning activities to maximize the potential for students to learn what is necessary to meet program outcomes.

Service

  • Advise students on a program of study.
  • Communicate with Student Services on issues of student advising.
  • Assist other faculty in advisement of students with complex or serious problems.
  • Serve on committees, task force(s), and special projects contributing to the growth of the Nursing Program, City College, and Montana State University Billings.

Scholarly Activities

  • Participate in professional organizations.
  • Maintain appropriate certifications and licenses.
  • Maintain proficiency in teaching and specialty expertise.
  • Maintain expertise in healthcare education.
  • Attend selected professional development activities.
  • Serve on civic engagement projects.
  • Maintains currency in nursing education through the review of relevant journals, abstracts, and scientific literature to include existing and emerging nursing technologies, including underlying educational principles.

Education Required:

  • Masters of Science in Nursing from an accredited school or currently enrolled in an appropriate program of study.

Experience Required:

  • Experience in clinical and classroom nursing education with working knowledge of curriculum development and assessment.
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • Ability to work/interact with diverse populations, showing respect and sensitivity for cultural differences.
  • A current unencumbered license to practice professional nursing in Montana.
  • Two years nursing experience, either working in a clinical setting or teaching in a nursing program.
  • Clinical competency in general nursing skills.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in the workplace, such as with community and health care entities.
  • Demonstrated experience in using software applications (i.e. Microsoft Office)
  • Demonstrated experience working in pediatric nursing or continuing education credits in this content area.

Experience Preferred:

  • Teaching experience at a Two-Year accredited institution of Higher Education.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence in an accredited registered nurse or practical nursing program.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in an online platform (i.e. Desire to Learn).
  • Demonstrated experience in using computer technology (i.e. patient simulators).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires sufficient mobility to work in a college with hands-on programs and operations, operate office equipment, able to lift, push or pull at least 50 lbs. Additional physical demands may include: stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching overhead and horizontally, repetitive hand movements, sitting for extended periods of time, and 4–6 hours of screen time per day.
