Description of Position: Under direction from Providers, Registered Nurses and Nurse Manager the Dialysis Licensed Practical Nurse delivers care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation specific to the treatment of the patient through dialysis therapy. Nurses collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. Nurses effectively interact with patient and significant others, while maintaining the standard of professional nursing. Hospital Dialysis Nurses provide care for adult patients new to dialysis or those with ESRD already with established care. Nurses perform both Hemodialysis, Prolonged Intermittent Renal Replacement Therapy, and Peritoneal Dialysis. Dialysis Nurses give direction to LPN, CNA, Dialysis Technicians. Receives direction from Providers, Registered Dialysis Nurses, Nurse Manager and Chief Nursing Officer.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities: Consults and coordinates with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement patient care plans related to Dialysis. Prepares, administers and records prescribed medications. Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a Licensed Practical Nurse. Educates patients on Dialysis related procedures, medications and conditions. Records patients’ medical information and vital signs. Changes dialysis catheter dressings, cannulates both fistulas and grafts, manages peritoneal dialysis per provider orders. Prepares equipment prior to dialysis per policy and aids providers during examination and treatment of patient. Obtains check off from Registered Nurse prior to treatment initiation. Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol.
EDUCATION: Nursing Program graduate.
EXPERIENCE: BLS and ACLS certification to be completed with 6 months of hire.
LICENSE: Montana LPN.
SKILLS: Basic Nursing Principles and Procedures. Basic office skills. Cannulation of Fistula and Grafts. Accessing CVLs for Dialysis. Med/ Surgical Nursing experience preferred.
