Financial Reporting Manager

Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the Company’s global financial reporting requirements, including, where applicable, filings with federal, state or international regulatory agencies. This position is also responsible for technical accounting and policy research and documentation.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: include, but not limited to:

  • Leads the process for preparing of consolidated and subsidiary financial statements in accordance with applicable regulatory or contractual requirements, including 10-Ks, 10-Qs, or equivalent reports in the United States or internationally
  • Ensures earnings/press releases, consolidated financial statements and related footnotes to ensure conformity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Compiles and/or validates financial information and metrics disclosed in financial statements, earnings releases, investor presentations and other external deliverables
  • Leads research for technical accounting matters relating to material transactions and contracts for Mohegan and its subsidiaries
  • Research relevant authoritative guidance and technical accounting issues and is responsible for providing disclosure and financial reporting in accordance with such guidance
  • Responsible for complex accounting matters including lease accounting, revenue recognition, debt extinguishment/modifications, and other technical matters
  • Identifies and tracks differences in International Financial Reporting Standards and US GAAP standards applicable to Mohegan’s subsidiaries

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the implementation of new accounting pronouncements
  • Responsible for the supervision, coaching and mentoring of staff
  • Performs administrative functions for the department including maintaining records/reports/analysis

Minimum Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Accounting or a related field
  • Six years of experience in public or private accounting, including at least three years of experience in US GAAP external financial reporting
  • Certified Public Accountant (or equivalent) preferred
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting software (e.g., Workiva, Workday)
  • An excellent knowledge of US GAAP and SEC rules and regulations is required combined with the ability to research and propose company positions on complex accounting issues
  • International accounting and issue recognition experience
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Competencies: Incumbent will master the following competencies while in this position:

  • Knowledge of Mohegan corporate and department policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of Mohegan budget planning and analysis process
  • Sound technical accounting and reporting knowledge
  • Understanding of the Mohegan Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance (TERO) as it relates to employment

Training Requirements:

  • Utilization of financial reporting software to generate reports
  • Keeps up to date of industry trends
  • Keeps abreast of authoritative guidance issued by related agencies (SEC, FASB, and IASB)
  • Must complete all appropriate training courses

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Remote work environment
  • Must be able to sit in front of a computer screen for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to work various shifts and flexible hours
