LINES OF AUTHORITY: This position is supervised by therelevant site Customer Service Supervisor and is sometimes directed by theoutpatient Medical Practitioners. This position does not supervise anyother personnel.
POSITION SUMMARY: The primary function of this position is toprovide medical support to the outpatient nurse and medical practitioners. The Outpatient Nursing/Medical Assistant will perform duties within his/her scopeof practice. The position's responsibility includes, but is not limitedto, obtaining vital signs, specimens, charting, filing, providing clericalsupport, stocking supplies.
PRINCIPALDUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Obtain client height and weight, temperature, abdominalgirth, pulse, respirations, and blood pressures, and calculate body mass index(BMI) and document such in the medical record prior to service with BehavioralHealth Medical Practitioner (BHMP).
- Completes review of client's record prior to servicewith BHMP, relative to lab results, need for prior authorization formedications, checking the Controlled Substance Provider Monitoring Program(CSPMP), current medical status, complete Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale(AIMS) and provide information to BHMP about these items, as evidenced bydocumentation in the medical record.
- Provides initial medical service to clients on awalk-in basis and evaluates which clients then need to receive immediate carefrom outpatient nurse or BHMP, as evidenced by documentation in medical record.
- Distributes sample medications as ordered byBHMP's, as evidenced by documentation in the medical record and samplestracking log.
- Completes outreach activities with Suboxoneclients, as well as with clients who have missed injection appointments, asevidenced by tracking logs and documentation in clinical records.
- Coordinates lab orders when needed, as well ascollecting random urine drug screen/saliva tests, as evidenced by documentationin medical records.
- Distributes medication packs to clients as needed,as evidenced by documentation in medical record and direct observation.
- Completes coordination of care activities afterBHMP appointment, as directed by the BHMP, with primary care physicians andother clinical team members, as evidenced by direct observation and review ofclinical records.
- Monitor medication refrigerator temperatures asrequired, as evidenced by completion of temperature tracking logs.
- Work wellunder pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines: at alltimes demonstrates cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.
- Able toeffectively de-escalate clients using techniques as trained and outlined inapproved crisis intervention models.
- Performsother duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUISITES:
Qualificationsand Experience:
- Arizona fingerprint/certified. Lack ofcertification status as per Licensing standard is grounds for immediatedismissal.
- Current Nursing Assistant Certification in goodstanding
- High School Diploma or GED OR certificate fromMedical Assistant program
- Current CPR Certification.
- Valid Arizona driver's license (free of anyrestrictions) and proof of valid auto insurance
Preferred:
- 1-3 years experience in Psychiatric Healthsetting.
- Certified in phlebotomy practice andinjection administration.
