The Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at Moffitt Cancer Center (MCC), a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, is seeking a faculty member in the tenure-earning rank of Senior Member (Full Professor equivalent) to be the Chair of the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Department, and Scientific Director of the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Shared Resource (BBSR) for the Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Center.

The Department (https://www.moffitt.org/research-science/divisions-and-departments/quantitative-science/biostatistics-and-bioinformatics/) currently comprises 20 faculty engaged in a wide range of statistical and bioinformatics research in collaboration with investigators across clinical, population and basic sciences. The Department’s research portfolio spans the cancer continuum, including studies in cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, prognosis and survivorship, drawing on expertise in novel therapeutic and drug discovery, prognostic and predictive biomarker development, chemoprevention, microbiome, high throughput genomics, proteomics & metabolomics, next-generation sequencing, spatial biology, molecular epidemiology, behavioral interventions, comparative effectiveness research, clinical trial design, and precision medicine. A commitment to catchment area priorities and health disparities research are emphasized across Moffitt’s research portfolio.

The Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Shared Resource (BBSR) (https://www.moffitt.org/research-science/shared-resources/biostatistics-and-bioinformatics/) is a Cancer Center Support Grant-funded shared resource, which is an essential shared resource given Moffitt’s designation as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. The BBSR includes 26 staff with expertise in biostatistics, bioinformatics, and informatics, providing collaborative support to cancer center researchers across the five Research Programs of Cancer Biology and Evolution, Cancer Epidemiology, Health Outcomes and Behavior, Immuno-Oncology, and Molecular Medicine.

The Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics is one of three departments in the academic Division of Quantitative Sciences within the Moffitt Research Institute. Alongside the Departments of Machine Learning and Integrated Mathematical Oncology, the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics offers a unique environment for quantitative scientists focused exclusively on cancer. Institutional investments in the Moffitt Cancer Analytics Platform, high performance computing, and the Total Cancer Care Protocol offer unique resources for data-driven team science.

Candidate Characteristics:
• We seek candidates who have an outstanding history of peer-reviewed publications and funding in NIH-equivalent grant-supported research projects. 
• Preference will be given to applicants with an outstanding record doing team science or collaborative data science, specifically in cancer.
• Excellent communication skills

Responsibilities: 
• Provide strong leadership, mentorship of a large and diverse department of faculty and staff. 
• Provide scientific direction/oversight of the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Shared Resource. 
• Build relationships with faculty and staff both in the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Department and across the Moffitt Cancer Center to promote a collaborative environment.

Credentials and Qualifications: Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. in statistics, biostatistics or related field and relevant research training and experience (currently Associate- or Full Professor-equivalent rank).

Appointment, which will be at the Senior Member/Full Professor rank, requires a minimum of five years of experience at the Associate Member/Associate Professor level. Moffitt is affiliated with the University of South Florida and a University appointment is available in the rank of Professor. Salary is competitive with similar institutions.
