Summary

Position Highlights: 

The Research Data Analyst II (Bioinformatics) will be responsible for conducting bioinformatics analyses requiring 2 years of experience programming in Stata, SAS, R, Python, or other bioinformatic software packages under supervision of Principal Investigators from the Health Outcomes and Behavior and Cancer Epidemiology Programs. This position would support Moffitt’s Cancer Care Delivery lab (https://lab.moffitt.org/cancercaredelivery/). Examples of projects include 1) pragmatic clinical trials evaluating the effectiveness of supportive care interventions for individuals with cancer and 2) mixed methods studies to examine disparities in care delivery for individuals with cancer.

The Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will have a degree in health services research, health policy, economics, quantitative psychology, epidemiology or a related field and have prior experience working with diverse data types commonly used in health service research (e.g., insurance claims, complex survey, electronic health record, patient-reported outcomes). Stata programming skills are preferred but we are open to hiring candidates with experience using other statistical software packages.

 Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of the PI, conducts advanced analysis requiring programming in Stata, SAS, R, Python, or other relevant statistical software package. Analysis may include but is not limited to survival analysis, case‐control analyses, cohort analyses, etc.
  • Performs bioinformatic data quality control prior to analysis implementation.
  • Determines appropriate statistical methods to achieve project aims.
  • Collects and manages survey, insurance claims, and clinical data. Develops custom databases with oversight from the PI.
  • Collects big data from multiple resources and determining appropriate merging procedures with existing analytic data.
  • Reviews data, ensuring accuracy and completeness of data.
  • Assures adherence to quality control standards established for data management.
  • Assists in scientific interpretation and writing/reporting of research for publication.
  • Effectively communicates the results of analyses to researchers.
  • Summarizes complex analyses in visual form that is interpretable by many levels of expertise, including clinicians.
  • Document all stages of data cleaning, analysis and visualization with an eye towards reproducibility.
  • Serves as contact for co‐investigators and other research affiliates.
  • Performs literature and software tool searches. Reads, summarizes and implements applicable relevant findings.
  • Under the direction of the PI, coordinates and develops correspondence and responses to various outside agencies regarding research activities.

Credentials and Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in health services research, health policy, economics, quantitative psychology, epidemiology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology or related field with 2 years of relevant experience with bioinformatic packages is required.
    • Or Bachelor's Degree in related field and 7 years of relevant experience with bioinformatic packages is required.
  • Completion of an intense data boot camp is equivalent to 1 year of experience.
  • Experience programming in Stata, R, Python, SAS or some other statistical software required.
