Modesto Trattoria is seeking a professional host/ess to facilitate our dining experience for local and out of town guests. Our staff members are a guide for our guests, leading them through the rotating food menus to arrive at a refreshing and fulfilling choices with proper cocktail and wine pairings.

Knowledge of various Italian regional cuisine, spirits, and wine is required of our staff, and training on these notes is provided and rigorous. You will be the first face at the door to greet guests, as well as help guide guests into food and drink options for their experience.

The maitre d' we are looking for will be able to manage the pace of the floor and facilitate a successful service for all employees and guests involved. He/she/they will be in constant contact with the servers and chefs in order to provide the best experience for guests as possible.

Responsibilities

• Prepare restaurant tables with special attention to cleanliness, sanitation and order
• Attend to guest upon entrance
• Present restaurant menus and help customers select food/beverages
• Answer questions or make recommendations for complementary products
• Collaborate with restaurant servers, hosts and kitchen/bar staff
• Deal with complaints or problems with a positive attitude, while escalating problems to the MOD or Chef
• Issue bills and accept payment
• Responsibility of facilitating take away orders
• Knowledge and implementation of alcoholic beverages
• Knowledge and ability to use OpenTable software
• Answering phone and taking detailed messages
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Collaborate with management on drink menus, dessert and food menus. We print menus daily, so being able to use Microsoft Word and a printer is a must
• Must be able to make sections according to staff on hand, and have good knowledge of OpenTable
