MobilizeGreen is seeking one Program Coordinator to join our residential Youth Conservation Programs (YCP) team in the Summer of 2024. As a Coordinator, you must be committed to the organization’s mission, our participant’s career success, and our partner’s project goals. In this role, you will serve as a key contact, supervisor, and administrator for two youth cohorts based out of the Superior National Forest including working on administrative, communication, and operational matters. In this role, you will work closely with the larger MobilizeGreen Team to efficiently deliver support that ensures program compliance. The MobilizeGreen-Forest Service YCP is a six-week residential program for a group of 24 high school-aged participants, run in two consecutive cohorts of 12 students. Nestled in the woods off the shores of Lake Superior, you will build a community while living, learning, and working together with crew members and leaders.

The crew will be working on conservation projects in the Superior National Forest during the day, and participating in environmental education, professional development, and outdoor recreation activities during the evenings and weekends. The goal of the program is to create environmental stewards and future leaders through community engagement, hands-on projects, and teamwork. Four Crew Leaders will manage student and group safety, personal development, camp life, environmental education, and trail projects. The Program Coordinator will support the Crew Leaders and work with the crew members to ensure that curriculum is implemented, and meals, basecamp, and travel logistics run smoothly. The Program Coordinator also represents MobilizeGreen on-site and coordinates logistics with the Forest Service partners throughout the project. 

Position Abstract: The Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and implementing the logistical and educational components of this program, including but not limited to coordinating menu planning and food purchasing, shopping for supplies as needed, arranging the set up and transportation of camping and shelter equipment, communicating with MobilizeGreen and Forest Staff and more. In addition, the Program Coordinator will serve as an alternate crew leader and supervise crew members at times. 

Housing: The YCP will be based out of Superior National Forest. MobilizeGreen will be based out of Silver Rapids Lodge for a majority of the program. Periodic overnight camping trips will be implemented in both cohorts. The Program Coordinator will be provided housing for the duration of the program.

Term: 23 weeks total, March-May completed Remotely; June-August on-site in Superior National Forest. (exact start and end dates are flexible)

  • March-May 2024: Supporting crew onboarding, orientation, and preparation; Planning location-specific education and recreation
  • May 27th-June 8th: Housing/Camp Set-Up and Supply
  • June 9th-22th: Crew Leader Training
  • June 23rd-July 13th: Cohort 1
  • July 14th-August 3rd: Cohort 2
  • August 4th-9th: Program Reporting, Inventory, and Supply storage

Benefits:

  • $35 per hour compensation, based on experience
    • March – April: not to exceed 20 hours/week
    • May – August: full time as needed

Core Duties

Participant Success

  • Serves as primary contact for interns and families, leading communications, and providing customer service
  • Assist in managing Crew Member travel and communications prior to the program. 
  • Assist in hosting 2 virtual orientation sessions prior to program start.
  • Helps administer the enrollment process for interns and ensure all documents are received and background checks are cleared in a timely manner
  • Serve as site liaison with USFS and other agency partners to coordinate all logistical and operational work and how it relates to the project and the crew.
  • Provide technical assistance to crew when appropriate 
  • Manage administrative aspects of member travel, equipment management, program logistics, and budget management
  • Administers intern off-boarding process including collecting final reports/evaluations/metrics from interns and their direct supervisors

Program Management

  • Coordinate arrival of camping supplies and equipment, as well as the set up and transportation of the equipment at new campsites
  • Shop for supplies for crew and leaders
  • Coordinate meals, cooking, hygiene/chore schedules, and transportation. A cook, housekeeper, and bus service may be contracted to assist in this.
  • Work with both MobilizeGreen staff and Forest Service partners to ensure the needs of the crew and partners are met
  • Communicate with USFS and YCP staff to lead planning, coordination and scheduling of work projects, environmental education lessons, leadership activities and recreational programming
  • Along with Crew Leaders, manage administrative aspects of the crew including but not limited to required pre- and post-program paperwork, daily work logs, incident reports, equipment inventories, evaluations and final report
  • Communicate with full-time MobilizeGreen and USFS staff as required and as needed to report and respond to incidents & near misses, and program evaluations.
  • Lead and mentor crew leaders and crew members during 2 week training, and 6 week summer YCP program, providing support as needed
  • Provide an emotionally and physically safe environment for members in accordance with MobilizeGreen’s Field Operations Standards
  • Serve as an alternate crew leader as needed
  • Lead regular on-site crew leader check-ins and member check-ins as needed
  • Assists with program Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable ensuring MobilizeGreen is consistently audit ready and has a well-maintained document and receipt database for purchases 
  • Other duties as assigned

Supplemental Functions

  • Deliver trainings to interns as needed
  • Assist with collecting stories, photos, and videos from program participants. Assist in telling the YCP story
  • Other administrative duties as assigned

Requirements During Term of Service:

  • Uphold and act in accordance with MobilizeGreen’s Field Operations Standards
  • Communicate effectively with MobilizeGreen staff, parents, agency partners, and crew leaders during program
  • Participate fully and lead Crew Leader Orientation and any safety training.
  • Maintain positive relationships with agency partners.
  • Maintain a positive, professional relationship with Crew Leaders.
  • Complete all necessary weekly and post-program paperwork, including an end of program debrief with MobilizeGreen Staff.
  • Complete weekly check-ins with MobilizeGreen staff
  • Complete all necessary post-program paperwork, including a phone evaluation with MobilizeGreen staff
  • Live on site in communal housing for at least 8 weeks

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years related experience in program administration; customer service or similar discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to DEI
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain relationships
  • Collaboration and teamwork skills are a must.
  • Strong computer skills and working knowledge of applications and databases such as Google Docs, Microsoft, and CRMs
  • Ability to learn and comprehend competing fiscal and political factors influencing programs
  • Knowledge of natural and cultural resource management issues and knowledge of government agency cultures a plus
  • Ability to work well as part of a team as well as independently
  • Desire and demonstrated ability to work effectively in fast-paced environment under pressure
  • Willingness to travel a minimum of 30% of time to as necessary
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, have a clean driving record and be comfortable driving a van on rural roads for long distances
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification, or ability to obtain by start date
