About Mobile Loaves & Fishes

Mobile Loaves & Fishes (MLF) is a social outreach ministry that has been empowering communities into a lifestyle of service with the homeless since 1998. Founded in Austin, Texas, the organization serves its homeless neighbors through three core programs: Truck Ministry, Community First! Village, and Community Works. Often referred to as the most talked about neighborhood in Austin, Community First! Village is a 51-acre master planned development that provides affordable, permanent housing and a supportive community for men and women coming out of chronic homelessness. We are now embarking on a new phase of community expansion, adding more than 1400 new neighbors over the next 5-10 years.

Scope & Purpose

The Communications Coordinator is an integral part of MLF's Communications department and assists with a range of tasks to support the overall needs of the broader communications team. A key focus of this role will be content production for social media, with additional support as necessary in the areas of graphic design, email communications, website updates, e-newsletters, and other general marketing collateral.

This is a full-time non-exempt position reporting to the Assistant Communications Manager. Due to the nature and requirements of the position, typically include 8 am-5 pm Monday-Friday. Some nights and weekends will be required. The Communications Coordinator will office at Community First! Village is located at 9301 Hog Eye Road, Austin, TX 78724.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee MLF's social media presence and produce regular content along with accompanying imagery for dissemination on the organization's social media channels
  • Create and maintain a social media editorial calendar to help deliver an organized and consistent
  • flow of social media content that captures the many stories of MLF and Community First! Village
  • Collaborate across various teams - specifically the Relationships & Giving and Community Empowerment teams - to help identify opportunities for integrating social media into their work and help promote the broader story of goodness coming out of Mobile Loaves & Fishes
  • Following the MLF style guide and with the guidance of the organization's primary graphic designer, generate designed elements that can be used for social media and other general marketing collateral
  • Writing and/or proofreading for MLF email communications
  • Provide basic email layout support in collaboration with other team members
  • Content generation related to MLF events, including invites, calendar placements, event updates, and relevant follow-up communication as warranted
  • Website content creation and updates
  • When necessary, support third-party video production requests and/or media interviews.
  • Work with various third-party contractors and service providers to fulfill different communications tasks, such as printing and sign production
  • Other Duties & Responsibilities as needed

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Commitment to serving those who have experienced homelessness and personal alignment with MLF's vision, mission, core values, and goals
  • The successful candidate will be passionate and knowledgeable about the nonprofit/social sector and MLF's vision, mission, core values, and goals
  • 1-3 years of professional experience (or solid internships) in communications, marketing, or public relations roles
  • Bachelor's degree and previous internship experience preferred
  • Proven experience creating and managing content for social media campaigns
  • Demonstrated graphic design experience is highly preferred in this role. Experience with design software preferred. We use Adobe Creative Suite (primarily Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign), Canva, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with WordPress preferred
  • Willingness to be flexible, open to learning, and have a tolerance for ambiguity
  • Able to prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced, fluid environment with multiple goals and deadlines
  • Self-starting, go-getter kind of individual who is deadline driven and doesn't require constant oversight or instruction
  • Must be organized and pay close attention to details, while also understanding how to keep things simple
  • Strong writing and eagle-eye proofreading skills
  • Good sense of humor, compassionate heart, and a professional attitude
  • Demonstrates integrity, sound judgment and strives for excellence in their work
  • Must have a valid driver's license
