Scope & Purpose

The Accounting Speacialist is an integral part of the accounting team, working to assist in supporting the accounting functions of the organization. The Accounting Speacialist will work directly to support resident contractors, assist in data entry, and perform other accounting tasks. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented flexible, adaptable, and excited to learn and grow.

This is a full-time non-exempt position reporting to the Director of Finance. Due to the nature and requirements of the position, typically include 8 am-5 pm Monday-Friday. Some nights and weekends may be required. The Accounting Specialist will office at Community First! Village is located at 9301 Hog Eye Road, Austin, TX 78724.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Responsible for completing all onboarding requirements for Community First! Village resident contractors and communicating to program managers on onboarding status
• Responsible for generating and distributing weekly resident contractor pay statements
• Assist in maintaining records and data process for resident contractor payments
• Assist resident contractors regarding inquiries on contracts and payment status
• Coordinate with Netspend, debit card vendor on account activation for resident card holders
• Work closely with other departments within the organization related to onboard resident contractors and other accounting processes
• Maintain contractor worker's compensation waiver records for insurance audit
• Assist in Accounts Payable data entry and bank reconciliation process
• Maintain accounting documentation in compliance with audit requirements
• Assist in the month-end close process
• Provide support to the accounting team, including workflow process improvements and annual audit process
• Assist in handling vehicle registration and titling process
• Visit Bank for check and cash donation deposit as needed
• Provide administrative support to the accounting team
• Organize electronic and paper records
• Assist with general accounting projects and other ad-hoc financial reports as needed

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

• Commitment to serving those who have experienced homelessness and personal alignment with MLF's vision, mission, core values, and goals
• The successful candidate will be passionate and knowledgeable about the nonprofit/social sector and MLF's vision, mission, core values, and goals
• Degree in accounting or a relevant field preferred
• 2 years experience in accounting and bookkeeping preferred
• Experience working within an accounting software system - Sage Intacct or QuickBooks preferred
• Strongly analytical, with attention to detail, with creative problem-solving skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Able to effectively work independently and as part of a team
• Knowledgeable and skilled in Microsoft, Excel, Word, and Google Suite
• Must have a valid driver's license
