Commercial Construction Interior Designer

Job Description 

OVERVIEW & QUALIFICATIONS 

Michael Kinder and Sons, a fourth-generation family-owned Design-Build Construction Firm is seeking an Interior Designer with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in commercial interior design. This highly motivated team member will contribute to a growing organization by providing unparalleled customer service and maintaining accurate and dependable job management.

The Commercial Construction Interior Designer is responsible for overseeing, as well as preparing design documents, and conceptual renderings for presentations of interviews, proposals and/or project meetings.

This position is responsible for any of the following duties which include but may not be limited to:

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design
  • Collaborate with design team members and manage design interns.
  • Project management of design projects
  • Manage and execute production drawings during all design phases.
  • Lead programming phase of assigned projects
  • Generate space plan solutions.
  • Read, fully understand, and interpret drawings, scopes of work, and specifications.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Critical Insight | Prepare 2D and 3D presentation design drawings in Revit Architecture, Enscape or Sketchup
  • Support the team with design and presentations.
  • Understand finish material pricing.
  • MKS Representative | Consult and build relationships with clients, architects, and subcontractors.
  • Make a concerted effort to build cultivating relationships with vendors. This may include lunch meetings or evening networking events.
  • Change Agent | Become a MKS Change Agent to allow company to strengthen and grow.
  • Assist in design procedures to continually improve our department and help differentiate MKS.

  • Position Direct Reports (LMA) | Interior Design Intern(s)
  • Position Internal Interaction | CEO, President, Accounting, Estimating, Business Development, Design, Human Resources, Operations, and Field Operations
  • Position External Interaction | Owners, Owner Reps., Architects, Engineers, Subcontractors, Suppliers, and any others assigned to the specific project

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum Education | Bachelor’s degree, CIDA accredited Interior Design program preferred
  • NCIDQ Certified preferred
  • Minimum Working Experience | 5 plus years commercial design experience
  • Candidate must possess basic knowledge of the following:
    • Hand and computer-aided design drafting skills
    • Space planning and an interest in programming
    • Design, trends, construction methodology, and materials application
    • Basic understanding of building regulations and life safety codes
    • Furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E), architectural/interior finishes, lighting, art, signage, color, and materials to execute design intent
    • Design techniques, tools and principals involved in the productions of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
    • Proficient basic technical skills of interior design including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, AutoCAD, Revit Architecture is preferred
