MINING AND THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY PROGRAM SCIENTIST 2, MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative (ESI), to develop a comprehensive research portfolio on the environmental and social concerns of mineral demands for the clean energy transition. Will lead the Program on Mining and the Circular Economy, under the direction of the ESI director; and help advance the program objective of becoming a leading voice globally for responsible management of the Earth’s metals to mitigate climate change while promoting the social and environmental well-being of resource-rich regions and of future generations. Will perform research most of the time, but will also provide training and mentorship to students and be involved in resource development and community engagement.

Job Requirements
EQUIRED: Ph.D. and postdoctoral research experience; and at least four years of related experience in a research environment, some of which must have been focused on the environmental impacts of mining. Must have deep knowledge of environmental issues related to mining and the circular economy, a track record of publishing in peer-reviewed publications and making academic presentations, student training, and external engagement on the topic. PREFERRED: experience interacting with the media and policymakers, experience organizing conferences, fieldwork experience directly in mining regions, and fluency in Spanish. Job #24068
Occasional travel will be necessary to carry out research fieldwork and disseminate findings, both domestically and internationally.
