Description

Position summary: The Manger of the Health Center manages all aspects of student health services at MMA under the guidance of the coordinating physician. 

Responsibilities: 

1. Supervise nursing staff. This includes determining staffing needs, hiring staff as required, conducting an on-going training program, annual performance reviews and termination when required. 

2. Developing protocol/procedures for clinic staff. 

3. Develop job descriptions for nursing staff. 

4. Develop and supervise the nursing staff work schedule. 

5. Develop and manage the infirmary budget. 

6. Prepare cadets billing information for the accountant. 

7. Review statements from Hospital, Physician’s offices, Pharmacy, and other suppliers and approve for payment. 

8. Train the MMA staff in dealing with Blood borne Pathogens. 

9. Maintain all required training records on infirmary and MMA staff. 

10. Follow-up with nursing staff to be sure all Physician’s orders are carried out. 

11. Triage sick call daily. 

12. Supervise cadets at the cadet hospital as required. 

13. Arrange appointments for cadets for referrals to physicians in Mexico, Columbia, and other surrounding areas. 

14. Develop individual health plans for each cadet to include mental and behavioral health. 

15. Order cadet medications and Cadet Hospital supplies. 

16. Maintain immunization records and give needed immunizations as required by law 

17. Contact parents with procedures for their son to be seen for physical therapy, lab work, x-rays, or other medical tests. 

18. Contact parents with procedure to follow for their son to be seen by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Psychiatrist, fax paperwork to the family and set up appointments for cadets to be seen. 

19. Follow up with parents after cadets medical appointments 

20. Develop and execute the Flu vaccine plan. 

21. File student accident insurance claim forms. 

22. Work with Delta Phi and M-Club in planning blood drives twice a year. 

23. Assist the Commandant in managing the random drug testing program. Order all drug testing supplies. 

24. Cover any shifts due to call-ins or shortage in staff. 

25. Assist nursing staff when there are a large number of ill cadets. 

26. Conduct inspections of school gym facilities and recommend protocols that enhance disease mitigation.

Requirements

Essential Skills and experience: 

1. Certified and current RN (at minimum). 

2. Five years’ experience preferred in managing medical programs and people. 

3. Ability to handle emergencies in a calm, professional manner. 

4. Have strong listening skills. 

5. Ability to empathize with young people and their real and perceived problems. 

6. Time management: be able to organize and manage multiple priorities. 

7. Be loyal to the Institution, its traditions and its administration. 

8. Must be able to read, understand, and apply written and verbal instructions. 

9. Commitment to excellence. 

10. Commitment to excellent customer service. 

Physical demands and work environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

1. Physical demands: While performing this job, the employee must be able to lift 50 pounds, walk for most of the shift, climb stairs, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tolls or controls; reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, and stand for at least two hours at a time. The specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. 

2. Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The majority of the work is performed in a dormitory with slipping, tripping, bumping and falling hazards. Some of the duties are performed on sports fields and adventure courses with the same hazards.
